Hello guys,
I have been trying to master my MY13 defender for a month and now seldom get any clunk or roo hop when shifting.
i have to say it is challenging to me. Sometime i can do it right and feel the power goes to the wheels smoothly and sometime feel the "breakage" (could be that rev drops too quick
at the moment, I would rev the engine to 2.8K then shift ( never read the speedo).
what would you guys do?:confused::confused:
I was suggested to shift at 3.5k but i am afraid that would be too LOUD ....:angel:
Cheers all,
Martin

I change around the 2000-2500 mark. I find it isn't so much about getting the rev's correct but rather when changing gear move the gear stick to neutral then into the correct gear and slowly release the clutch. In saying that though it took mine until around 20,000km on the ODO before it was smooth each gear change.

I have a 2.4 also, 115k on it now. I rev it up to 2500 to 3000 when I have my remap on maybe 4000 if I am pulling out, I keep the clutch in as hard as I can when I change and take my time changing, I will say where your seat is makes a huge difference to me, 1 notch the wrong way can affect my gear changing, maybe that's just me.

2500 when pulling out into traffic, a bit less otherwise.

It may sound silly but I'm finding that I come back onto the throttle just a little before the clutch pedal actually disengages.
It's not riding the clutch, but by giving it a tiny bit of throttle, I seem to get my timing right.
If I dont do this then I get all the issues you describe.

2.4 anywhere from 2 to 3000.
In the past I always had a clunk and changes were messy and usually jerky. No matter or how I tried to drive it, even slow changes. In the end car had a gear box mount replaced at 40K. Still clunked but better. Then I put a new diff in at 75K and all clunks gone and no bunny hop drive line slack at all.
Just before last service it started holding onto revs during changes. It made driving very frustrating and a little embarrassing. Dealer replaced some black box that governs this "gear change rev" and car started driving again as normal.
Don't wish to alarm you. Just my relationship with my Defender.
