Mark,
They were a limited edition so not many around but people either love them or hate them (it's the decals that seem to be the issue).
I would look for a chassis and keep another Tanami on the road but I'm biased because I own one......

While I'm not a fan of them myself (yep, the decals!) it would be shame if it wasn't on the road seeing how they were a limited run :)
Anyone know roughly how many would still be on the road? I would have though most of them?

You have to remember that a lot of the equipment that was fitted to the Tanami most people would have optioned anyway (aircon, cargo barrier, roofrack, bullbar, snorkle). The only unique extras were the tool holders on the bonnet & the decals.
With this in mind they would have been treated like any other Defender so some survive and some would have been scrapped or parted out by now.
When I contacted Land Rover they claimed 100-150 Tanami's 'made'.
Mine had the side decals removed by the original owner and the Defender decal. Just the word Tanami on each door and the signatures left.
The wife treated me to a personalised plate for mine last year.

Hi All
My Tanami doesn't have the long decal on it and the defender decal seems to be set higher.
I will have to have a better look and take a few photo s I guess:):D - it does have an aluminium rack and sunraysias, and surprise surprise it is white.

Aluminium rack & Sunraysias weren't standard.
But there was a discussion a while ago where someone mentioned working in a dealers that fitted Sunraysias to the Tanami.
Mine had just the rear decal, the side signatures & 'Tanami' decals left on.
The rack was fitted with boat rollers which I removed (the rubber rollers alone probably exceeded the allowable roof load).

As a fellow Tanami owner I agree if we are saying there are only 50 cars maybe this makes them worth saving. I know a chassis swap is not a 5 minute job but trust me the looks you get in traffic is unbelievable.
