Watch the movie "13 Days".
I'm told that is a pretty accurate representation of what went on back then.

How close was the world to a nuclear exchange - it was much closer than you would want it to be...

............(a russian sub flotilla commander took the decision to back down in the face of intense US provocation - was he the man who saved the world ? - I don't know about that but he sure saved a lot of lives including his own crew)

I understand this was a point in time when it was very close.
The threat of Nuclear exchange is very real today, in fact it won't be if but when.
The weapons exist & at some point in time will be used because no country is interested in destroying them, truth is more countries are trying to build/acquire Nuclear weapons
E.G.- N Korea/ Iran
I believe there won't be any to & fro-ing when it happens either, we will wake up 1 morning (just like 9-11) to find a Country has been attack with no warning.
One country isn't going to warn another country of using them, it will be surprise attack just as Pearl Harbor.
Sadly It's where the world is heading....

I guess that the "hot spot" is between India and Pakistan. Both have the bombs and if in the future Pakistan have a radical Islamic government anything can happens. :(

Im happy to go to the grave being wrong...
They didn't have the growing number radical extremists in the 60's that exist today, & the numbers are growing.
Also the "rouge nations" are spending what money they have into this, while there people live in poverty.
Now I don't spend my days worry about this, what will happen will happen...

Most of the problem is you can't trust these nut case religious countries that will drop it in the name of who ever, don't mind dropping it on their neighbour and killing themselves in the process.

Yep and all for some belief that some goose wrote in a book (allegedly).
They should have listed these books under "Fairy Tales" way back when!!!!!

But America has had these weapons for years and they've only dropped two in anger so far.
By your description "nut case religious country", I assume you were referring to America.

I'd laugh if that weren't so frighteningly accurate.

My experience is no one fires a shot in anger, normally fear is the motivating emotion, Bob

Exactly.
I always have a quiet chuckle at them bagging out fundamentalists, when they're just as bad in a lot of ways.
