Hi

A couple of bangs, and a bit of grinding, gave me something to think about recently. Was it wheel bearings? clutch? Diff? . Anyway I got in touch with Dave Dover (awesome mobile mech 0416 923 554 -northern suburbs Perth) and he worked out that the swivel bearing were shot at the very least, maybe that was what I had heard.

He got it all apart, and sure enough swivels were corroded and fell out in bits, but also bits of metal were coming out of the axle...hmmm..

Turns out the diff was 'miraculously' still going despite missing 1/3 of a spider gear, and the best part of half a dozen crown teeth!

Dave got a new 'old' diff for me, put it all together with various other things that made sense to do, and really looked after me with price and service.

regards
Andy

It was a fortuitous time to have stopped and had a look at what was wrong. You where late into time on with that diff. Some of those larger bits would have sooner than later really done some carnage.

definitely lucky, Dave was very surprised to hear it wasn't making a sound when driven, beyond the original 'bang' which I though was perhaps a wheel bearing or something with the clutch- it was confusing me that there was no ongoing noise.

Now at least I know the diagnosis for another couple of sounds!

I've booked in to change the timing belt in a fortnight; I figure I may have already used up my 'luck' quota for the year!
