And I see a heap of 4x4 Perenties are up this time. It seemed like at the last auction a lot of optimistic dealers bought some - I wonder who will get them this time?

I think you'll find that a new auction = new thread.
Or make the old one a sticky in General Chat?

Maybe a new section on the forum some where for all the Defence sales stuff and if a new thread starts out side that area, it gets moved to that section

As an aside, I often see large and small military convoys going up and down the highway travelling between Rockhampton and Townsville.
At the Mac's Truck stop I stopped to have a chat with a couple of Blokes in a G Wagon and asked what they thought of them.
They both said that they would be sorry to see the Landy's go.
They then complained that the G Wagons were very crampted inside and after sitting in it I agreed, looked lovely tho.
What amused me was the fact that they complained about the G Wagon being thirty year old techknology !!!

PS: to the above.
During joint exercises I love to see the Blackhawks, Apache and Tigers roaring past my house.
A couple of years ago I was in the backyard when a pair of F111's screamed past overhead one behind the other. Damned near blew me off my feet and I was sure me mango tree must have been scorched.
I love it when these exercises are on.

they will all complain for the sake of complaining
years ago they probably all wanted their SII's and SIII's back in service when the 110 arrived
when the Steyr cam in everybody moan about the SLR being taken out of service

I'd hapily swap my Landy for their G Wagon.

Yep. Basically a RRC chassis built with German refinement and precision. Only goes to show how right Landrover got it back then.

That is because they are - the G -Wagen was originally a Steyr Puch vehicle developed in the 70s and originally sold as a Puch and then later had Mercedes Benz badges on it and the Puch badges then disappeared.
Magna Steyr still make the the G Wagen (for MB) in Austria.

our mitibishi fire truck have a range of engine sizes.
even the non turbo will do 105+KMh up the buckets way.[90 zone]
however if your silly and drive up the hyway and come across those long slow hills then 50kmh flat out can happen.ive had some 40 kmh drives the other side of bulladelah.
other wise mitubishi rule.
today I passed a ex unimog with a metal rear body.looked like comms or specialist body.wad a happy camper on board.

it costs a lot (except in some states if you are a pensioner and then you probably can't afford to buy/run it )

AFAIK it can't be done yet on the 6X6s in NSW - a vehicle needs to over 30yo here, and even then use is quite restricted.

Remember the $880 national heavy vehicle charge is on top of the regular state weigt tax, registration fee and green slip charges.
A vehicle has to be 30 years from year of manufacture before it is eligible for Historic rego or club plates.

Not here.
Victorian Club Permit Scheme (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/OtherPermits/ClubPermits.htm)
I can put a vehicle manufactured in 1988 on a club permit. If I bought a 1990 6x6 Perentie, all I'd have to do is wait a couple of years before registering.
This 4x4 (http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0025-5007444/auto-accessories/land-rover-110-4x4-land-rover-4x4-personnel-carrier-9-1988), for example, I can put on club plates next month.

Just out or curiosity, it says:
Registration charges for heavy vehicles are calculated using the vehicle's type, Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), the number of axles and the vehicle's nominated configuration. The nominated configuration for a truck or prime mover refers to the combination of the hauling unit and trailers. You must nominate the highest configuration at which you intend to operate the vehicle.
so your Perentie may not be heavy enough to matter. As usual, it would probably be a matter of finding a lifeform within the department able to answer the question accurately.

GVM of a 6x6 Perentie is on a data plate I believe. 5t I think it is.

GVM 5.6 Tonne, anything above 4.5 atracts the national heavy vehicle freight charge. And you will be paying on 3.260 Tonne every year.
http://res1.graysonline.com/handlers/attachmenthandler.ashx't=sh&id=3624058&filename=NSW+Blue+Slip.pdf
BTW: You get a payload of 1.020 Tonne with a 110 perentie, if you engineer a 6X6 down to 4.495 Tonne to avoid the National charges, you only get 1.235 Tonne payload only 215 KG more than a 110.

Crikey!Yes even the old Land Rover SIIb and 101 forward controls had payloads of 1.5 tonne and that was on vehicles far less than 4.5T GVM
