replacement head options

Hi all,

Diesel in oil problem

Had head pressure tested and came up ok. I was
told that the head needed to be heated and then
pressure tested, as the crack will only show at
temperature, so head was heated in wash bath to
90 degrees and then pressure tested again...no leak.

After a conversation with head refit kit supplier I was
Told that even though the head passed the test, the
Problem would probably still be the head from their
experience...I thought I might replace injectors but was
strongly advised not to waste my money.

Any thoughts?

Just wondering if the AMC heads are any good.
I have heard from some that say there a better
Option than original LE head and then have als
Heard from prominent LR guys in WA that they
are rubbish.

Then there is the option for fully conditioned
Original LR head.

Not sure what to do.

AMC heads are supposed be better in that they've got a bit more meat where the heads normally crack.
Could it be that it needs to be skimmed?
If it's pressure testing okay then I'm not entirely sure how it could still be causing a problem?

Yes an aftermarket head from the likes of Turners is far and away better than a reco standard. As DM says they have a lot more beef in the problem areas. It is still possible for a head to pass a pressure test but still be faulty. Be aware that even an AMC head will fail if subjected to overheating. Alloy heads of any description dislike heat..

Another cause of diesel in oil problem is injector seals and washers. Might be worth a try.

Hi Pete,

Yesterday I finished installation of an AMC Turner Head (which is currently on special at 1045 pounds) after diesel in coolant problem which developed into blowing hoses problem. I am very impressed with the quality and it runs beautifully. Definitely the way to go if you need to replace the head. If you do go down the replacement head path fit it with the exhaust manifold bolted on it is a lot easier.
