I wait (with bated breath) for the link so that I can see the bait you tried.

This is a different kind of breath.

Sally, having swallowed cheese,
Directs down holes the scented breeze,
Enticing thus with baited breath
Nice mice to an untimely death.

:wasntme:  Thanks Ron.
Of course, you realise I did that deliberately just to entice you back from semi-retirement. :D

Okay, I'll admit.
I wasn't referring to a SPECIFIC instance, I was simply commenting on the 4WDA page last night, the one about the Defender in the US being crushed?
It was actually the first time someone was able to argue their point from a point of view other than "Land Rovers are all **** hur hur hur".
Which meant last night after a few drinks, I was forced to actually think instead of troll silly toymotor and pootrol owners
But, it's a well oiled formula

What with that an all your photos on the other thread how do you have time for anything else? :p

Those poor, poor Yanks. When I lived in Canada the Americans nearby were still doing up leaf-sprung Landies and anything with coils was exotic. There is a 25-year wait for them and 15 in Canada before you can import something. So they started rebuilding Series vehicles to Defender spec. One guy in Canada had a Defender registered as a 109". And they were desperate to own these things because the domestic vehicles were such rubbish. So bad, in fact, that I missed having even Toyotas and Nissans around . . .

I managed to squeeze in a few hours for a uni assessment last night :D
It's a terrible waste, regardless of the vehicle.

Absolutely - can you imagine a place where they can't afford waste just wrecking things like that? It's a sure sign that something is going wrong. It must only be for PR since it's so dramatic-looking.

Exactly. When you're however many trillion dollars in debt the US is, they should take what they can.
Given that the Defender hasn't really changed an awful lot, surely that one would be worth a goldmine in spare parts for legitimate owners.

As noted in the facebook link;

"Everyone can walk around and buy a gun over there without checks. But the Defenders unsafe"

It is.
If someone hit a Yank Tank in a Defender, all the sheet metal would fall off and the car would simply disintegrate, whereas the Defender might have a bit of a scratch.
Terrible for the US car market, being bested by the British :D

Further to my previous post, The only safe Defenders an armoured one.

What a bloody wast  the bodywork fell apart as expected but the chassis and diff housing realy seemed to handle the punishment very well

Tough cookie. Quite impressed really.

Imagine though....

"Thinking you were getting a 1975 Defender (sic), and actually getting a brand new defender that has been illegally altered"...

Result! Get in!

Wow, they make fish look careful and discerning. Nice work! I don't read any of that, er, "mainstream" stuff so it's always a bit odd when I do have a look. A lot of those comments seem to be from a parallel universe.
