View Full Version : Really annoying Nissan Patrol add.

Ladies and Gents,

This evening I have been utilising my IPad to keep abreast of the latest threads on this most awesome of forums. However I'm a bit peeved with the Nissan Patrol add that keeps showing up at the bottom of the page every time I check a new thread. Scrolling through the posts is a dance with the devil named epilepsy as the add flickers and moves with each scroll. It is not that I'm anti Patrol (what the hell is a Nissan add doing on this forum anyway?? I guess some marketing guru did he market research and found some link between us and Patrol purchases), it is just really, really, really annoying. Has anyone else been enjoying this Nissan add as much as me? Maybe I'm just being overly grumpy after watching the Wallabies fall over. AGAIN!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Danial.

Excellent response DM; excellent!
Just what we discussed on the other thread about defamation :D

.......what the hell is a Nissan add doing on this forum anyway??.......

It's a test of faith. Beware of clicking on the ad though, because as soon as you click on it, Inc and the Mod team appear at your front door and remove your eyebrows with a pair of circlip pliers. ;)

Incisor and The Moderators.
Good name for a punk band.
"Don't click the nissan ad or I'll stab you inna face wiv a screwdriver"
Great, now I've turned Inc. and co. into the Sex Pistols
:p

Seriously though.
Inc. has explained that there are a few ads that are set, the rest are, from my understanding, luck of the draw.
I don't notice it (joys of subscribing) but Inc. has to keep the place running some how :)

So will this subscription be a long term thing? I will just have use the laptop to check the forum till that add buggers off. Or does it not matter what device I'm using and will be daunted by Nissan forever? It really is that annoying.

Cheers,

Danial.

Lasts a year.
It's linked to your account and not a device.
Silver Subscription is all of $55 I think, small price to pay for the info we have access to, not to mention the community associated with it.
Standard subscription is even less, and as previously mentioned, I'm a broke uni student and I manage it so the rest of you lot should have no excuse :D

My faith is strong and won't be tempted by the Nissan propaganda machine. Apparently that new Nissan V8 only comes out in a petrol?? I could be totally wrong on that and saying something totally defamatory. I didn't even do any research before posting this. What a loose cannon.

Cheers,

Danial.

Basic subscription is $25 and, considering the technical advice, enjoyment, friendships, comraderie, etc you get by visiting this forum, is a pitifully small amount to pay. Miss a few coffees and its paid.

Personally, I think the basic $25 should be mandatory; user pays.

What annoys me is those with an income that enables them to buy the very expensive LR models, frequent this site and don't subscribe; and the subscription fee to them is purely petty cash.

I dont care about any adds showing up here. If it helps pay for the site then so be it.

I think you'll find the link between us and Patrol purchases is that people sell their patrols to buy a Land Rover :D

Seriously though I have noticed that it tailors the add's to places you have visited, i.e. targeted marketing which others such as Google and the like do. I have been getting inundated with Kogan ads since I browsed their site a few days to price match something I was looking at (at least that beats the Foxtel ads I was getting before that).

After only viewing this great forum for a couple of days I could see that I was going to learn a lot from it so didn't hesitate to become a silver subscriber, I just thought it was the right thing to do when it was me that was going to benefit from the knowledge here. This is a great forum in my opinion!

I had a grumble about it in another thread, and yeah yeah, I hear ya. When I find myself in town next I am going to subscribe, and yeah, I understand the adverts have to be there..... BUT, this damn thing is a bright red line that seems to have a mind of its own on screen... Some times its there, sometimes its at the bottom, and sometimes on some threads you only have to touch the screen and stand back, the damn red Patrol advert is all, over the show!!! Ironically this thread is one of them.. Tend not to read the threads it appears in now.. :(

Honestly being on the internet something like 14 hours a day I don't even notice any adverts, side top middle or where ever. But I sure feel like test driving the new xtrail for some strange reason, and at only $29,990.

This subscription thing seems like the right decision to make though, doing it out of fear. Fear of not getting the information I need to keep my D3 on the road..:p

I get the same ad - not between posts, but as a banner that covers the bottom of the screen - it moves when you move the screen up and down so it is always at the bottom of the screen. Very annoying.

Only seems to be iPads it's effecting I think.

Don't let that put you off - it's only one ad that stays - sometimes - all the rest between posts, etc disappear once you subscribe. Well worth the $$$.:)

Go on...;)

Just using the browser - safari - on the ipad. The ad comes and goes. Haven't seen it tonight, but it only ever turns up when I'm on AULRO. Mind you, that is 90% of my Internet use...

incisor
19th August 2013, 05:31 PM
any reason you arent using one of the forum apps?

Homestar
19th August 2013, 05:36 PM
Not really, I have Forum Runner on my ipad, but tend not to use it. I'll give that a go and see if it disappears.

Edit - just realised why I don't use Forum Runner... It doesn't suit how I browse this site.

The only reason That ad annoys me is because its bright red and does not stay in the same place.. I've worked out tho that when scrolling up and down, if I keep one finger on the screen it stays away!!! as for apps to use the forum... It first asked me when I logged in but I always decline as I think the apps 'trim' the page you are viewing. The less apps and clutter on my Ipad the better!!! Same as Gav here... 50% of my net time spent here, 25% with Ebay, and the other bits on YouTube, 101 Forum etc..:)

Sure does.
Aren't most of the ads we see based on previous browser history, what's in the cache, cookies, etc?

I get the nissan ad as well. Keeping a finger on the screen stops it from appearing and scrolling up the screen sometimes. BUT annoying way to surf a web site, also loosing over a centimetre of screen space on an iPads already small screen is a bummer.

I have had the ad for a while, and it followed me across to the the Wall Street Journal's page. I was following a link for the pretty pictures, not the text.

It's nearly as annoying as that stupid series of RAA adverts on the TV.. The 'ah Trev' ones.... I'd not buy RAA insurance on principal now, or a V8 petrol Pootrol for that matter!!! :)

It's infected me now!

First time I've had it, on the iPad, using Chrome as a browser. Very annoying, it knocks the keyboard back down when you go to use it.

Yeah, it is really starting to impact the time I spend on here - it is ****ing me off.

Any IT gurus know how to get rid of it - it is well beyond a joke now. I appreciate ads are needed on sites like this but when it impacts the use of the site, it is going too far.

Someone PLEASE make it stop...

the more you post in a thread talking about it the more you will get targeted as it is targeted advertising based on YOUR browsing habits on your device.

Very strange and very annoying.

Here's the ad for the Nissan Pathfinder. It does not annoy me in the least.

This was posted on Defender2.net as an educational tool by a member. Never thought I'd have anything good to say about independent suspension.... or Nissan for that matter. Just goes to show how broadminded I am.

It's been back for me the last few days, first as an ad for Toyota, then Nokia and on returning to this thread, Nissan again.
I'm on an iPad. Have cleared history and cookies, can't get rid of it:mad:

Anyone else have it return?

Homestar
29th September 2013, 06:30 PM
Yep, they are back in force at the moment. I can't pin down when and where they turn up - they just turn up on every 3rd or 4th window that I open.

I've just learned to live with em...

sheerluck
29th September 2013, 06:33 PM
Same for me. I can't get on with Tapatalk, so I just have to suffer with that damned ad. Problem is that it does have a little X in the corner to close it, but however carefully you touch it, it jumps up to cover the whole screen anyway. :(

I feel left out, they must be regional ads as I'm getting Mercedes Benz.

Neither Merc nor Nissan have much hope of selling me a car right now.:D
