Has anyone replaced the reverse light globe and or the rear fog light globes on a TD5 with LED globes .
I am thinking of replacing the standard filament globe with one of these .
How much light do they give, ?
Does it require a resistor in line to make the globes work ?
What about the LED globes with a buzzer , has anyone tried these ?

The reflector in the standard reverse light is shaped to focus on the filament of a normal globe, so LED globes will give you less light output. The way the lad globes are configured (see pic below), the reflector doesn't focus on the light source.
You're better off upgrading to a full LED NAS reverse light like these RDX (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-RDX-LUX-LED-NAS-CLEAR-Fog-Reverse-Lights-Plinths-LandRover-90-110-Defender-/390442214604?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ae82b64cc) If you just want one, send them a message, I've found them good to deal with.
They are much brighter than the standard reverse light.
You only need resistors when using led indicators.

Here's the pair you would want...........Reverse + Fog NAS (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-RDX-LUX-LED-NAS-Fog-Reverse-Lights-Plinths-LandRover-90-110-Defender-2001-/390504681689?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5aebe490d9)

Yep, it's the best Landy info site.

I've got two of the led fog lights in my rear bar, but I've wired them as stop lights. The light output is impressive.
Also, they look better in the flesh than in pictures, I'm sure you will be happy with them.

I have recently replaced my reversing globes with LED lamps, and I found them to be much improved. I used SMD type LEDs, and bought the lamps on Ebay. They cost me about $2.50 each landed. The item number on Ebay is 400476082456. Just put that in the search window.
(BA15S 50 LED SMD) Make sure that you get "cold white" rather than "warm white".
.
I've played a lot with LED bulbs as replacement globes for cars and bikes, and nearly always the result is disappointing. I have a box of the damn things. However in the case of the Disco reversing lights the result is excellent. It seems to depend a lot on the taillight lens. I tried the same LEDs in my wife's Nissan Micra reversing lights and got such a poor result that I put the incandescent bulbs back in.

I just swapped my whole reverse lamp for a 15w LED worklight, at least I can see when I go into reverse now.

I wire my light poles with a three way switch so they come on automatically as a reversing light, or they can be turned on manually as a camping light.
It's height gives a good spread of light and the 27w led is much brighter than a standard reverse light.

Ian has just swapped out our reverse light bulb for LED in the defender and he said that it is much better he can actually see the light through the tinted windows now where as before he couldn't. The reverse light was pretty useless actually.

I have no idea which LEDs he bought though

I'm going to try swapping out the globe for a 15w HID lamp. I think it will actually fit, and apparently gives off over 1500 lumens. You get two in a kit , so if I can get it to fit I might try swapping the fog lamp lense for a clear one, and running two of them. Given the original globe is 21W, I reckon at least one would work without a relay. (but two might need a relay - I'm pretty sure the TD5 has a power feed in the back so might be able to pick that up.)
