Hi ,,

My Defender TD5 2005 is getting a white smoke while moving from zero on 2nd gear (Low REV), I did checked many things and replaced what I had to with no improvements .

Today I tried to play with nanocom. to change the injectors type that I was suspecting could cause or solve the problem,I did changed it while im driving on highway going to work, I didn't notice anything wrong or good so i changed it back to what it was, now after 8 hours in the parking I came to drive it back home and I noticed that the coolant water is mixing oil and it leaks out of the coolant reservoir .

Is there any thing that I can relate it to what I did with the type of injectors or its head gasket ?

Thank You

Sounds like a head gasket to me.
Could also be the oil cooler.
How much oil in the header tank?

Engine oil cooler not transmission oil cooler.

Engine oil cooler not transmission oil cooler.

Thank you , It IS the engin oil cooler , and now I will try to find some one to replicate it due to lack of spare parts in the area .

Today I will go to a garage specialize in building custom radiators ,I hope he can do some thing to make it work.

While I don't think its a good idea in either Kuwait or Australia there are companies here that replace the oil cooler radiator with a piece of steel pipe.
My guess is it doesn't cool as well but it may get you out of trouble as its relatively easy to do.

I would but money on head gasket first, but until you strip it down and have a proper look.

That depends peaty.
If it's just a sort of skim layer in the coolant then yes, that suggests the head gasket has gone.
But, if it's large quantities of oil and coolant mixing then it's more likely to be the oil cooler.

That white smoke might be unburnt fuel. Perhaps due to low compression, caused by a head gasket. Can you get the compression checked? I think you can only do 4 of the 5 cylinders as you need to use the glow plugs, and there is no glowplug on one of the cylinders.

Hi ,,

I already swapped the oil cooler with a steel pipe and COPPER washers in place of the original rubber O rings to seal the oil, after several long trips I can say now its working fine with no issues and no heat .

However White smoke is still driving me crazy, lately and as some of you suggested I suspect its a head gasket, how can I assure this ? To check the head presure do I need a special gauge or a garage should always carry this tool ? What is consedered a min. and max. head presure for each ?

Oh ,, one more thing , I would advice any one who experiment this fault ( Oil cooler leak) to change the radiator hoses ,Mine become blown one by other in 10 days after the leakage, and it feels very soft due to the hot mixture of oil and water .
