ABS activating in reverse

I have had what seems to be a new problem occur twice today.Whilst reversing with hard left lock the ABS has activated.I have not been able to repeat the problem going forward as yet so am unsure if its just a reversing issue.After giving it some thought I can understand that the left rear wheel would be travelling much slower than the front right and perhaps look like it is locked but I have never had this occur previously. On neither occasion did the ABS light come on as it has previously when I had a faulty wheel sensor,the light does come on at start up.
Any ideas?

The light is supposed to come on at start up and turn off once you drive forward for more than about 7 metres.
D1 ABS is pretty twitchy on dirt even at low speeds and its possible if you were at full lock the difference in wheel speed would be enough. A faulty sensor would put the ECU into fault, disabling ABS, not trigger it.

7km/h not 7m. It goes off after its satisfied its getting sensible readings from the wheel speed sensors.


Did the ABS actually kick in, ie. Could feel the pulsing of it, or just going by light on the dash?

Edit: just noticed the original post said the light did not come on. I thought the light did come on when the ABS kicked in. Could be wrong, haven't had a D1 for a while. But by that, are you sure it was abs, and not your CDL isn't sticking perhaps? That could feel similar... I once knocked the lever across, then reversed out of a car park and thought bad things were unfolding when I went to full lock!

Sorry if original post was a little unclear.
-Yes the abs light is on at start up until the self check is satisfied there are no faults and the vehicle has travelled faster than 7 km/h.
- on both occasions I was on bitumen surface so no chance of wheel skidding.
- I tried repeating the problem this morning and no issues.
- the ABS definitely activated I am fimiliar with this.
- the ABS fault light did not come on on either occasion.
In my original post I mentioned an issue some years ago with a faulty sensor causing the ABS to activate. This did bring on the light and did cause the ABS to behave as if a wheel was locked. I agree totally that this is not what the system should do but from reading other people's posts and talking to the LR specialist who repaired the problem it is not an uncommon for this to occur.
