So, I was told "they" could not tune my carbs any better without a rebuild! So, I bought 2 rebuild kits. These contain, a diaphragm, a needle valve and a heap of gaskets and O rings. I fail to see what difference all this would make to my carbies performance, surely I would need new jets?? As these are not included, does this mean need to buy them separately? I have a 3.5 V8 what should I be buying???

They probably meant a full rebuild where the throttle shafts are replaced because they leak when worn and so on. This usually means machining the carby to put in bushes for the shaft. The kit you bought is only for the most basic rebuild, while the "big" kit is this: Carburetors Page 2 (http://www.dingocroft.co.uk/acatalog/Carburetors-p2.html)

Thanks Davo. I think I may look at buying some refurbished ones if I can find any. No rush! $$$$$$$$$

Does the idle increase when warm... along with it leaning out at low revs ... to the point where it likes a sniff of choke to run ok  I looked everywhere for vacuum leaks on mine, before finally realising filling the dashpots on both carbies completely fixed the issue! The running is transformed if you fill both the carbies with oil.

There is a guy on eBay UK that does them. I've found new ones over the years but this guy seems like a pro who knows what he's doing. Otherwise, watch out as no doubt there will be a few around with just a kit put through them and called "rebuilt". I've learned that these carbies need to be in excellent condition to work properly. They don't like a bit of wear here and there as it seems to add up. That's why people complain about them and say they can't be balanced and all that. In new condition, they will work the way the factory intended, without needing to be fiddled with constantly, and they seem to last for a very long time.

And yes, that oil in the top always seems to be forgotten!
