G'day,

I have a problem with my power steering pump on my 300tdi, my belt has been chewed and upon further inspection i have noticed that the pulley has come out about 5mm from the housing. A few weeks ago it was making a chirpin noise but no difference in power steering and no oil leaks either. i am assuming bearing failure. Has any one had this happen and what is the cause.

Also i am prepared to replace the pump myself, any handy tips would be appreciated.

found this handy instruction on Pump Replacement
300TDi PAS pump - Land Rover Technical Archive - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum (http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php'showtopic=3908)

I have ordered a new ZF Unit

Best Regards,

Chris

Sounds like bearing failure. Chirping may also be the belt tensioner pulley bearing on its last legs - easy to press out and replace (no info in the workshop manual, but you just remove the pulley, remove an odd kind of circlip - no rings on the ends, but I was able to finaggle it out using a thin skrewdriver point behind the bearing, press old bearing out using a socket in a vice, then press the replacement in etc.).
