Why some times I have moist in the eyes and a knot in the throat?
Jackie Evancho, a 13 years old girl, singing DANNY BOY make me go soft, it does the same for you?

Danny Boy is such an incredibly sad song when you know what it is referring to. I used to sing it in my set, but dropped it a few years ago. Beautiful version too. She has a lovely voice.
This one always does it for me.....

Danny Boy was my Grandmothers favourite song. Every time I hear it, I go back to Her. A song that is so sad, is this from Eric Bogle. Speaks volumes about the senseless killing , back then. Bogle is singing at the Irish Club , in Brisbane, in October.

Chucaro, thank you thank you thank you.
I had never heard of this little girl untill your post.
She is fabulous.
I downloaded her performance when she was a guest on Britains got talent singing Nessun Dorma ( plus everything else of hers on youtube ). I was spellbound, I cried. I cried five more times during the day when I replayed it, then ten times more just thinking about her.
I think I will do it again in a few more minutes.

I used to sing Danny Boy for one of the old dears at our local RSL, sadly she has passed away now, the last time I saw her she came up on stage and we sang it together.
Close on 80 years old and still had a beautiful voice too.

Remember Charlotte Church, another 13yo sensation.
She sang Danny Boy.

Danny Boy was my fathers song. They played it at his funeral.
They played the version sung by Eva Cassidy. His favourite.

Thanks Mick, she has an amazingly mature voice for one so young.
Danny Boy was also my Father's song, played at his funeral as well.
Widely accepted as an Irish ballad, the lyrics were written by an English lawyer, in the early 1900s, and set to a different tune. The song was later adapted, by the original author and set to the tune "Londonderry Air", an Irish melody. Although never confirmed, or revealled by the author, the words are commonly believed to be a mother talking to her son as he departs abroad.
Here are the most popular lyrics, there are a number of variations.
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flow'rs are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh, Danny boy, oh, Danny boy, I love you so.
And if you come, and all the flowers are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
I pray you'll find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warm and sweeter be
And then you'll kneel and whisper that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.
It is a beautiful song, which is probably why just about every man and his dog has recorded it.
