I currently have 2 x Century 68 batteries (Online Car Batteries | Century 68 Battery | The Battery Base | Melbourne | Australia (http://thebatterybase.com.au/Century-68-Battery.html)) in the under-seat battery box. I want to replace one with a deep-cycle, and was wondering what the biggest A/H battery others have managed to shoe-horn with not too much mucking around.

I'm still considering maybe doing what BreakingBad on here did, and squeezing 3 Optimas in there, but this would be a big investment, and probably a bit of overkill for me.

BTW, this is to run 12V accessories, winch, air-compressor and when the car is running a 3-way fridge in the Trayon (at least until I get around to replacing it with a 12/240V job).

I have one N70 starter and two yellow top 55AH Optimas under the seat. The yellow tops are small for the capacity and they also charge quite quickly. My biggest struggle was getting something short enough for the battery box and the Optimas are only 200mm high at the top of the terminals, most batteries are taller. Another good point with the Optimas are that they have 750CCA so you can start from them if your starter battery dies while out bush.

I gained a little extra room in there by extending the box to sort of square it off on the outside part of the box (below the door). Increased the footprint available a handy amount. Still only have 2 N70s in there but all the AC stuff didn't need moving. Hard to explain, I had a photo somewhere.

Ranga I have a 105Ah 850cca in there with LR's original huge cranker. I had a new floor insert bent up to make the battery box floor flat. Given the crankers last for ages and under warranty I didn't want to loose it. So it was changed to east west to accommodate the auxiliary. But sure is cosy in there.

In time as the cranker fails along with the auxiliary, I think I'll be looking at Andrews set up.

I followed the same route as 2 stroke and Newhue. I tried to get a 120 Ah but it was larger than the N70 size so i went with the 105Ah N70 sized and rotated the cranker and aux 90 deg. I used a sheet of thick wood to level off the base and I was able to squeeze both batteries under the lid by tucking the cranker up to the front of the box and the aux under the lip on the passenger door side. Still room at the back for the isolator switch. I have a layer of carpet between the lid and terminals for good measure.

I've found the 105 Ah most adequate to run winches, 50lt fridge and camp lighting. I had the fridge running for 3 days (no charging) on the aux and no cycling. Must have been close to its min drain for the fridge
