Whine....

Hi all,

After driving the car for the last week I noticed the car had developed a whine sounding like it was coming from the gearbox....
Took it to the local trans guy who takes it for a drive and comes back and says its the rear diff...more than likely a bearing or crown wheel... But they don't do diffs....
So ill book it ib to brake-clutch place that does diffs as well and hope for the best I guess!

I had/ have the same issue with mine. 113k on the clock and a momentary whine somewhere between second and third if under load ie going up hill or accelerating fairly hard. It's just had a new rear diff and by all accounts still has the whine. Im not at home to listen for myself at the moment. Rear diff issue diagnosed by Austral in Brissy. After all the work the car now vibrates badly at 80 km hour??????

Mine is in all gears.
I'm gunna get it taken off and looked at by a diff specialist who would be better than your standard stealership mechanic, well I hope so anyway!

Gearbox guy said he could make the car "sing" as under certain revs/conditions the sound was different and apparently it's due to gears in diff being not as "tight" as gearbox or something along those lines.

Local LR parts dealer gave me a price of $1750 for a exchange unit (same price front or back). So hopefully indy can do reco/rebuild for less.
