Just had my 24 month service and mentions to the dealer that I was getting vibration in the steering wheel while breaking. Mainly noticeable when breaking at around 70klm/hr. When picking up the car the told me that the front rotors needed to be replace because they were warped. I ask if that was a warranty job and they said no it will cost me $650.
The car has only done 18500klm and the pads are barely worn.
I understand that in modern high performance brakes the rotors do wear and need the be replaced when they reach there minimum thickness.
But I would consider warping to be different to wearing and be covered under warranty, especially at these klms.

My work car had rotors replaced under warranty from being warped.
$650 to replace them and pads, WOW! If they insist it's not covered (call lr head office and check) get a indy brake place or just do it yourself!

How many klms had your car done?

The front discs on my 2011 D4 were replaced under warranty for the same issue. From memory the car was a year old.

There is a technical bulletin on this issue. The cars known to have the problem are in a certain vin range.
My D4 had a long list of parts replaced under warranty to fix the problem. Including the front rotors.

If you ring LR head office, give them your vin they might be able to tell you what service bulletins are outstanding.

I rang LR customer support one time to ask them to contact the dealer to correct the dealer's warranty understanding which they promptly did and confirmed by a call from the dealer a short time later.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I wanted to gather some information before I argued the case.
I will talk to the service manager next week.
If I have no joy I will contact LRA.
I noticed there was technical bulletin on topix when
I put my VIN in and looked under technical bulletins and
Then brake system

Dealer told me claim was rejected.
Very disappointed in how this matter has been handled.
Will be calling LRA customer care on Monday.
Rotors warping is NOT normal wear and tear.

As a minimum you think they would at least machine the rotors and new pads....
That sucks they didnt want to help!
Good luck

I had the same thing with my Hyundai iloadofcrap, at 20,000k rotors were warped, they were going to charge me $120 to machine them, I fitted new ones with pads for $200.
Lost my sales.
My old vz Holden one tonner did the same, machined them for free.

It's pretty poor really.
considering average yearly driving is 15,000 to 20,000 K's.
Does this mean that you should expect to have to replace
your rotors every year if you travel the average klm/year.
It's interesting that the dealer said they usually cover it up to a year.
I was unaware that my cared for pride and joy's rotors would be wearing out
while tucked up snuggly in it's garage.
Being the second car, it's only done just over 9,000km a year and a total
of 18,600km when dropped in to the dealer.

New rotors & pads were installed yesterday along with a car wash done under warranty.
Annoyed with the hassle and time it took to finally get it done.
Very happy with the end result..... No more vibration.....
If you are in the right, persistence is key...

You shouldn't need new rotors for a long time unless they deteriorate more when lightly used. I have done 90,000km in less than 24 months in my D4 and there has been no issue at all with the rotors. I had new pads last year on the original rotors and I am getting new pads fitted today, so I am expecting that the rotors will probably need replacing due to being too thin. However, no vibration or warped rotors for me in that time.

The car had done 55,000km when I bought it and I don't know what had been done to the brakes prior to that. However, my rotors have done the water crossings at Cape York, Lichfield National Park, Kakadu and many others with tens of thousands of km of rough outback roads with no issues whatsoever. There is certainly no inherent weakness with them.

Update on my previous post.
The D4 just needed rear pads. Fronts are still good and no new rotors. I can't believe how long the pads and rotors last on such a heavy car.
