Front recovery points

I know this has been discussed and I have searched on the Forum , (which is excellent), but I still have a couple of questions on this subject, which some of the members may be able to answer.

I am looking at a set of Jate rings for the front, on my 2000 td5 it has a steering guard and extreme bull bar attached to the hole for the Jate ring, this makes the width 100mm, the widest Jate ring is 97mm.
I do not want to grind anything off the Jate ring as this could weaken the ring, is this correct?, what other options is there.
Also for a Jate ring, I could not find the torque setting to tighten the ring, does anyone know of the torque setting.

What do you think between the Jate ring and maxidrive plates, which is best?

I know that is a loaded question as they will both have good and bad points.

Is there a better option than the above. I sure there is a hundred options but what fits and suits the Defender the best.

Maybe these recovery points might suit .
I have them on my td5 defender, approx $60-70 a pair i think .
Call MR Auto in Redcliffe for more info, oh and the recovery hole on mine does not take a 4 and a bit T shackle only the 3ish T .

I have steering guard and a bullbar on my 2010 Puma - bought the widened jate rings.

They were about 1mm too narrow so rather than grind them i put the open end against the tapered heel of my bvice and bashed a little. With a heavy-ish hammer. This opened them up a little and i got them on - a tight fit with a minor battle.

Disclaimer - i bought the expensive genuine LR ones - they are forged not cast - if you do this with the cast ones they might crack. And if they crack... do you want them on your LR ...?

Spoke to the guys at APT Fabrications and purchased a Defender steering guard
AF1020 today.
Cannot wait on it to arrive I will install it on the weekend.
Has anyone got one of these units

Regarding the APT steering guard,
I purchased one of Ben @ APT a few weeks ago, very happy with it so far.
Very easy to put on, all lines up perfectly. Very well finished, top quality bolts/nuts, very good powdercoating job on the steel brackets that bolt on to the chassis as well.
Only one issue that I had was when I took the factory steering protection bar off, it was full of very black, very smelly water that went all over me... Just be aware that your bar may have the same...
When I put it on the Landy, I used a whole heap of copper grease on all the bolts/nuts.

Your recovery points look very much like the tie down or lashing eyes. Are they? Have they just been moved?

They're dedicated recovery points integrated into the APT guard.

Just received mine today, wow really quick delivery, I will look out for the water in the old guard, mine will be the same for sure, they look good on the Defenders too:p
