Just watched "Griff the Invisible".
It's a love story told in a way only an Aussie film can tell it.

X2 there would be very few aussie movies that I would say were good, but the absolute crappiest would have to be
'The Howling"

The best Aussie movie I've seen for ages is The Sapphires. Funny and great music without the dose of bogan cliches that make me cringe.

My alltime favourite is "Bliss " the 1984 film that has my favourite actress
Helen Jones. I watched my dvd again just a few weeks ago.
I think the last 5 or 10 minutes of the movie are brilliant.
Barry Otto and Helen worked together perfectly.

There's a lot of great Aussie movies out there, and like it or not, those Bogan Cliches as there called now, are what the world hears from us, to Americans, we all sound like Paul Hogan, Cobber;)

Another Aussie movie, a movie that was nearly lost, probably Australia's best horror movie, Chips Rafferty's last, Jack Thompson's first, ....

"Wake in Fright"

I've got it on DVD. Now I have a Bluray player, I should get it on DVD.

Did you know, I love Aussie flicks?

Yep. The Mad Max movies are very well known here. As a young teenager, I rode my push bike along a few of the roads in that movie.

We'll make an Aussie of you yet.

There are stacks of Aussie films, some good, some average and some very very bad. It seems that the good ones always get remade by the yanks for the US audience. Think "Tim" and "Priscilla".

What gets me is that only rarely do Aussie flicks get shown on Foxtel, surely there's a space for an Aussie flick at least once per week, particularly when scores of the Yank ones get shown a dozen times in a month and then repeated in a couple of months time on a different Fox channel. Thats not even talking aout the same ones being shown on the FTA primary and additional channels at the same time.

Hear, hear!

I keep a lookout on the indigenous channel NITV. They have shown a few flicks I like. I missed out on "The Top Enders" when they played that. I always love watching the musical "Bran Nue Dae". They played "Ten Canoes" a few months ago.
SBS has played "Bran Nue Dae" before and recently another Aussie flick I love, "You Can't Stop the Murders".

If you like movies like The Castle, you should watch Bad Eggs. I'm a big fan.

I also thought Red Dog was excellent.

Going back a while but one of my favourites was Midnight Spares which is counterbalanced by The Dead End Drive In as one of the worst. Then, out there, in a category all of it's own is Bad Boy Bubby .

Bad Boy Bubby has come up in many a conversation as "Must See". I think it was made in Adelaide.
I must look out for it in the DVD shops.

Love "Death in Brunswick" and "Spotswood". I saw them at the cinema. Saw "Young Einstein" in the cinema too. Thought it was a fin movie. I wonder what happened to Yahoo Serious? Off to Google.

Alien treated us to "Wolf Creek" whilst we were camped at Dengalli.

I used to play wolf creek to my tourists before taking them to stay the night in the old shearers quarters on one of the stations we stayed at when I was tour guiding, that was always a fun night!

Speaking of US remakes of Aussie stuff, I rather enjoyed the remake of 'Wilfred' (worth a Google and a watch of you haven't seen or heard of it) when it was shown over here.

Apparently the Australian version was only 12 episodes whilst the yank series currently totals about 40, but unlike some remakes it features the same actor (also one of the writers/creators) in the role of Wilfred.

Wonderfully surreal, and actually rather funny.

Seen many, and loved most of those mentioned.

On another tangent, what about the Aussie mini series, that seemed to be a popular genre years ago? Those that spring to mind are ANZACS, The Shiralee and Dirt Water Dynasty.

For short films, you can't go past The Gate, as seen on the DVD for One Night the Moon. Very funny.

Wonderfully surreal, and actually rather funny. If it was made in the US it's mandatory that we have to see it here, so yes the US version has been shown on Foxtel as is the Aussie version.

Cath and Kim has also been remade in the US but without the Sharon character (Magda Suzbanski)

We still cant get our Aussie stuff on pay TV unless its owned by US or UK companies (read Freemantle)
