I thought things were running a bit smooth... Speedo ceased to work this morning during a run.... I figured cable( it was a bit twitchy over 40 mph) cables of and is fine.
Any thoughts on how to narrow it down to speedo or drive in g box ....?
Regards mark

Maybe Go for a drive with the speedo end poking out thru the dash, if the centre turns, it's the gauge, if not it's the cable or gearbox end..

Mine has also stopped.

The outer cable is untidy but with some lube and a bit of push pull of inner cable and it freed up. I had the cable too constrained by where it was run. I took the seat box off and checked the drive.

The outer cable had been stretched but fixed now.

I really need to replace it. I think they are relatively cheap. I just like to repair what's there.

Looking forward to seeing your veh. Again.

If it is not the cable, it is most likely the drive gear is spinning on the output shaft, or rather not spinning. This worm is only clamped by the output flange.

Disconnect the rear propshaft from the flange on the back of the brake drum. Tighten the big nut thus revealed (should be secured with a cotter pin, I think on Series 1). This will most likely fix the problem.

Cars looking the same brad ,( edit smeared in mud like it should be.... ) gunna try and straiten up the wings/ rad panel b4 the caranean gardens thingie.. . I pulled the cable of the speedo and its in the drive from the g box( cable checks ok to . Thinking I will refit it just to make shure it's far enough onto the g box output.. Then check there's resistance in the drive ... Then jd's plan...
Btw the cables are about 25 bucks from the Blackburn blokes
Guess having her up to 85 km might have had something to do with it lol
Flux capacitors blown
Cheers all

Yes thanks, I actually fitted a new Lucas Alt a week ago.
I had regulator problems and the 86 is getting more use than first planned so I have to make it as reliable as I can. Went up Mt Skene in the snow 2 weeks ago.

Economy is worse than a v8 so tune is the next to sort.

It fitted without alteration.

Cheers

Looks like its j d's plan...... The cable turns when not attached in the way the w shop manual instructs.... I'm not looking forward to pulling the propshaft ... The drum end is festy and there's bugger all room for a spanner
