Hi all,
I saw a D2 yesterday and its amber front side parking lights were on....it made me think, "I dont know if I have noticed mine working for a while"...went and looked and both bulbs were blown. On my D2 is a single PK screw at the top and then the light just pops out the front and the parker takes the same bulb as the parker in the headlights. They look so much better with them active, but a lot of D2's have blown and people dont realise.
Cheers

Mine have blown quite a few times, I tried to replace them with LED wedges but one of them blew out within a couple of days, and the replacement too. Back to incandescent wedges, seem to be lasting ok.

I assume this is a pre-facelift thing?
Is the park light inside the amber indicator light housing?

Yes at the top of the indicator housing above the indicator, referenced on page 169 here http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/service/archive/66218/section%204%20-%20owner%20maintenance.pdf

Yes - you see a lot of pre-facelift D2's with headlights on and no amber illumination. Aside from the safety aspect, it is very attractive. I think a lot of service places dont know about them and only replace the parking bulbs (white glow) inside the headlights. Takes about a minute to replace one when you know its there.
Cheers
PS From memory the narva part number is 47501

Mine are still working ok. Have not had any dramas with them yet and they do look good and really make the car stand out at dusk.

I didn't think amber front park lights were legal. My son had a Jap import Nissan Civilian bus which had amber front park lights and they had to be changed to white to pass inspection (in Qld).

They must be legal because I purchased my D2 new in 2002 and they were on whenever the parking or headlight switch was 'on' and these were complianced vehicles in Aust.

It does seem strange to have a park light the same colour as the indicators!
Perhaps the D1 it is legal on because they have a white coloured park light in the main headlight housing as well as the amber park light?

D1s did not have orange park lights.

As far as I am aware they are ADR approved because they were factory fitted. I assume the amber would be classed as a "Clearance light" The "parking light" is contained with in the Headlight. A park light must display a white light, whereas a clearance light may display a white of amber light. AUSTRALIAN VEHICLE STANDARDS RULES - REG 84 Parking lights (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nt/consol_reg/avsr324/s84.html) AUSTRALIAN VEHICLE STANDARDS RULES - REG 91 Front clearance lights (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nt/consol_reg/avsr324/s91.html)

Mine work :), and yes I have always referred to them as "marker" (or clearance) lights like trucks have - the "park lights" are in the headlight housing.

I love them, I'm sure I'm not the only one to look in the reflection of a shop window and smile as I drive along at night...
