Hi all,

Just pulled the trigger on new off road wheels and tires.
Called around a few places including indrpendant shops around arncliffe area and checked several websites.
I'd decided on king wheel tera black steel wheels in 17x8 and some 265/65/17 conti cross contact a/t.
While googling noticed an add from Bob Jane saying they would beat a quoted price by 10% of the difference.
One indy store had the tyres for $200, not bad I thought, look ok, ok reviews on line.
Another larger tyre shop could do steelies for $128.
Rang bob Jane and retail price of contis was $340
So 10% of the difference brought them down to $186 and they can do the wheels for $120!
Pick them up tomorrow!
As Charlie sheen would say, winning!!!

So if you need some tires get some prices then call bob jane!

What is the load rating for the Kings?

I think the more relevant question is what is the offset?

None of the steel wheels I have seen have a legal offset.

Small technicality.....

Not a small issue at all, nor is the load rating.

I've met many who have mentioned bending some of these modern steelies on much lighter vehicles than a D3/D4.

As for offset, you could get rubbing, damage, etc and you also render the vehicle unroadworthy and void of
Insurance.

Even if they are only "play" tyres, that's when you're likely to do damage!

Insurance companies are cracking down on claims as they maintain the bottom line and these sort of things are all they need.

I've mentioned before for example: Several travel incidents; It's now becoming practice for insurance companies to have the vehicles weighed and checked over before recovery.

Over GVM, not legally modified, no payout...

I dont know what goes on with the tyre trade here in Australia but it's pretty all over the place.

I have been chasing some BFG M/T in 245/75-16. I've have been given over half a dozen prices from $198 to $401 for the same tyre.

I can understand there being a few dolloars difference in a tyre but double? There must be some serious markup in tyres.

The tyres for $198 are out of stock at the moment but the next cheapest is $280 per tyre in Brisbane. For the price of 5 tyres, I can save enough that it makes it worth while me driving from Darwin to Brisbane to get them and while I'm there I'll pick up a roof top tent and save $300 in freight for that.

Happy Days.

They are rated at between 1200-1400kg.

I think prices differ because you get some stores who import either direct or via the USA where as some places get from an Aussie distributor which usually have higher prices.

I was looking for tyres recently in Darwin too (BFG A/Ts) - I think up here you really get ripped off - they seem to automatically add whatever it would cost you to ship them up from another state to the local cost. Tyre prices seem reasonable everywhere else but here!

Shipping for 5 tyres from Brisbane was $270 so still cheaper to get tyres shipped up from Brisbane than buying them over the counter here.

So funny I went to a tyre store and asked how much for tyres, they said $401 fitted. I asked how much was fitting, $30. What about if I bring my own tyres, $50.

WTF, $30 to fit a tyre or $50 to fit another tyre?

Weird.
