2013 Defender 110 Performs Perfectly

I just thought I would post a good news story re the Defender.
SHMBO and I just returned from a 4000k Central Australia Trip. Flinders ranges and some station tracks, Oonadatta track, painted desert etc.
The Defender performed extremely well.
No dust ingest,the traxide (USI 160) dual battery system keep the fridge humming along.Thanks Tim for the gear and Pete at MLR for the installation.
Need to look into Aux. fuel tanks for longer trips.
The only issue with the beast is a rattle behind the dash somewhere, and one jeans belt loop was lost on cabin entry.
Must admit I felt a little lonely out there did not run into any other Lande Rover owners and I was one of the few cars not towing a trailer or off road van of some description.
Cant wait to get back out there.

Good to hear...

I just got back from giving my 2012 its first good run from Me....From Perth to Kalbarri for 5 days camping trip with mates and back....boy does it love the sand....noticed with the Ultra Gauge that it runs 5 C cooler running in Low Range in the sand....as you said defo need to fit long range tanks as needed to stop a couple of times when it would have been better continuing on the road....pulled my mates boat like it was not even there....

Now the Bad News

Went out to the car today to clean out and the bugger would not start....second time on the flat bed in a month with the same problem :(

Not sure how you got away with no dust ingress, I cant seem to stop it in mine, but then I must admit, I haven't really tried too hard to fix it. ;)
I've lost pockets from my striker :eek:, so thanks Murray, I'll look into that little fix soon :).
We're looking at doing a similar trip at Easter, so I might have to look at fuel options by then maybe too. Having a DC, I will build a tank for the rear if I get time, but otherwise, jerry cans will be the go.
I haven't checked in the specific section yet, but are you doing a trip report? I'd be keen to read and view what you've done.

chops, yes the dust issue was a pleasant surprise I had an older defender years ago and brought half the simpson desert dust back to Melbourne. I had to seal up a couple of places, prior to taking off.
I might do a trip report over the weekend.
The Flinders are fantastic at the moment, they have had good rainfall, never seen them so green,will be a good wild flower year. The rest of the outback was really dry.

Yes Pete works for Melbourne City Landrover. I think Pete runs the crew that fit accessories to Landrover's as well as pre delivery. Pete owns a D4 has owned defenders and hangs out on the D4 forum under the name of sniegy.
Petes a good bloke and his team did an excellent job installing my dual battery.

What does she do or not do?

Mine did it a couple times when it was new and Land Rover Assist Australia was pretty useless in over the phone advice (other than wanting to send the flat bed!) It would light up the dash but refuse to turn the starter.

Made a quick call to Land Rover Assist UK using Skype and the bloke talked me through finding a poorly crimped spade plug on the immobilizer. Quick crimp with the crimping pliers and all fixed. (thickish brown wire in the box under the driver seat)

Next service the dealer changed the spade plugs and a relay on the immobilizer and 3 years later it never reoccurred.

Hope your's is as simple a fix.

When I turn the key everything lights up in the dash and the radio, AC etc comes on and all I hear is a tick. When it happened last month they found a blown relay and changed it out....I asked questions and was told nothing else was wrong on the system. ...now this has happened again and they think its a problem with the starter motor....we will see

Fitting these goodies to my 90. have lost belt loops and pockets and just plain rips from my 110 and others cars too. Very well made items....The X-trousers are all stainless...lovely..

Sounds like the same thing. The dealer told me the bad connection was part of the problem with the relay. Very unlikely to be the starter.
