When we’re heading off to remote locations, being able to get there and back is an absolute must. Old technology diesels could usually be fixed on the side of the road, but modern common-rail diesels are a different story indeed! Start thinking tow trucks, and huge repair bills.

It’s common to hear of injectors at $2000 each and fuel pumps around $5000, before labour charges. In severe cases, pistons have melted requiring a complete new engine! But…just what causes these problems?

Well, in the quest for ever cleaner emissions, fuel injection equipment now runs much finer tolerances, and at much higher pressures…many times that of older diesels. Higher pressures mean higher temperatures inside pumps and injectors. So hot, in fact, that the fuel can decompose while it circulates, and leave deposits which foul the tight clearances.

Usually, the earliest warning is a cold start rattle, which, if not addressed, will get louder and more damaging. It’s a detonation rattle caused by the injector sticking open too long, and over-fuelling. Such detonation can and does melt pistons!

Even more important with CRD systems, pumps & injectors demand good lubrication from the diesel. If it’s marginal, it’ll generate extra heat and further deposit formation…as well as rapid wear!

The third big problem is water. Tiny amounts that would be tolerated by older diesels, will wreck CRD fuel systems. The finer clearances simply will not tolerate even the tiniest speck of rust.

CRD Fuel Enhancer has been developed specifically for common rail diesel engines. It cleans deposits, boosts fuel lubricity and provides excellent rust protection and water shedding, and with only 8 months in the market place, it has already had impressive results…

• Injector rattles fixed that were so bad, to be thought terminal by mechanics.
• Restoration (and improvement) of fuel economy.
• Better response and power.
• Quieter and smoother idle.

The best part is, you only need a mere 10mL for 80L diesel. CRD Fuel Enhancer starts from $54 and can be purchased from Cost Effective Maintenance direct on (07) 3376 6188, or jump on our website at Cost Effective Maintenance - Home (http://www.costeffective.com.au)
