View Full Version : How Long Since Asked To Show Drivers Licence
Saitch
31st August 2013, 07:13 AM
I've just renewed my drivers & marine Qld licence for $140 for 5 years. It's one of the flash new micro-chip cards & I realised, for that money, the last time a Walloper asked to see my licence was in 1985. Since then I've only used it for I.D.
So, is this the norm or is it different in other parts of Oz??

They often check your licence at RBT stops in NSW.

At least once a year for me. Twice so far this year, though, once when the boys in blue stopped me when I was going a little faster than I should  and the second at an RBT.
Not bad given I was unable to drive for 5 months of the year so far!

Because of where we live, it'll always be during summer school holidays and probably another time during another school holiday...but other than that just ID

A few weeks ago.
"Just a licence and registration check sir."
Such is life when you own an old Commodore (hoon car of choice).

Whatever happened to "None shall pass"?
Probably when I got pulled over, more than a year ago. Despite being a P plater, I too am rarely asked for it at RBTs. Again, not had one in ages, despite the fact they set up opposite our road.

Whatever happened to "None shall pass"? .......
The problem was they did pass. Then they did a quick u-turn and came after me with lights blazing and sirens going :D
I was doing 68 in a 60, downhill, but fair enough, I was breaking the limit. Taught me to be a bit more wary of downhill stretches in the Golf (it has very little engine braking, given there's no loads on it like in most cars)

Try buying take away grog in Alice Springs, you need to show your licence every time. You know if you drink too much if it wears out before the expiry date............haha.:wasntme:

Had to show mine about 3 weeks ago as I was going for a leisurely drive up to Mount Mee in the Dormobile. I put a wheel over the centre line on that really awkward bend by the winery and got done for dangerous driving :censored: by some arrogant cop on a motorbike :censored:
The fact I was doing 30kph and apologized meant nothing to this .... The fact that ten idiots on motorbikes had overtaken me at 140kph meant nothing, the fact one was going so fast he couldn't stop at the roadworks traffic lights meant nothing either :censored:
According to this desirable officer of the law, it was idiots like me who cause fatal accidents on this road  wtf By this time I'm afraid I lost it big time and was about to deck him  but was led away to cool down by my passengers.
I ended up with a $198.00 fine which they refused to let me pay at 10 cents per week :D I've since followed several cars around that corner and every one of those cars has cut the corner more than what I did.
Should I put in a complaint against this officer with attitude ??

Well....
According to this desirable officer of the law, it was idiots like me who cause fatal accidents on this road....
You should take action for severe psychological trauma due to verbal abuse and bullying by said officer. :p
I've got nothing but respect for the boys in blue who are hard working, honest, etc.
But there's no excuse for being rude.

Hahaha there are rarely corners I don't cross the lines to get a good apex (of course when I have the whole road to myself).
I've only been stopped once in 4 years of driving, the one time I drove past an RBT in a car other than a Land Rover!!! And I spend a lot I Saturday nights driving around Cronulla, so what's that tell you!
Also I've found they don't book you for up to 20 over down here... Hehe

You didn't mention whether it was your driver's side wheel or the passenger's side wheel that went over the centre line. :p:p:p

1987 driving a Hertz rental Orion (Ford) up the M1 in England. Got pulled over for speeding, handed my Brazilian license, never said a word & was not very politely told where to go, officer muttering about damn foreigners! I was a pom back then on home leave from Embraer... :D
Sad thing was I was in the middle of a pack of several vehicles all doing well over 70 MPH when I was singled out, just not British. Tudo Bem!

Twenty two years, eleven months and about five hours since a cop had a look at my licence. Was my thirtieth birthday. Had a permit to drive a vehicle with out plates. Had the plates in the car and heading home to fit them. Got done for no plates fitted. Once you got your number plates the permit was void. Not that it said that any where. With online fines now you miss the personal contact.

The last time I drove the wife's car, a couple of months ago.
Oh how I hate these modern super insulated and isolated jalopies.
Give me my dear old rattle and clunk Landy's any day, they CAN'T get you booked for speeding if they tried.

I think they just laugh when you leap along the road at 130 in a Land Rover...

nothing personal but ..
what he probably meant was 'idiots like you' does not actually imply you are the idiot, just that others like you are idiots.
I often am in a snail of slow traffic held up by some idiot at the front, people do risk their, and others, lives by trying to get past this slow idiot. They are more idiotic than the idiot at front but in my view it wasn't for the idiot at front the dangerous situation does not happen.
I'm guessing thats what the cop was thinking
Beats me why these idiots don't pull over and let people pass, not as if they don't have time !

I have been asked for my licence every time I have been stopped for a RBT check; probably about half a dozen times a year.

I had to show mine last week between Tully and Cardwell on the Bruce Highway. For my efforts I got a ticket for speeding, 117 in a 100.
I doubt I was going that fast personally, the alarm on my GPS goes off at 105 then goes mad at 115, I may have heard the 105 one not sure as it can be drowned by the radio, but the 115 one there is no chance I would have missed it.
The cop car was coming the other way and flicked on his lights, did a U turn and met me for a chat on the other side of the road. I told him of course his equipment must be faulty and he allowed me to look at the number on the black box and of course I have to take his word for that they are from my speed. He asked me if I checked my speedo when his lights went on, I had to laugh and told him I got such a bloody fright when his car lit up like a Christmas tree coming round the corner that checking my speedo was the last thing on my mind.
I am very annoyed at myself, I generally never speed, have never had points in the last 20 years, I was obviously going faster than I should have been, but I am also annoyed at the system that there is no real recourse or way to prove that I was not doing 117kph, and the difference in a few kph is 2 points and a few $$.
I was looking at buying a blackbox camera gps recorder but have since read that even if you take the footage to court and it proves you were not doing what the police equipment said they would still not rule in your favor, a seriously flawed system in my opinion.
Anyway I have decided to spend the money on Cruise Control instead, prevention and all that, trying to keep my speed sitting on the limit all the way back to the Gold Coast was tiring and I was waiting for a copper around every bend.

it works both ways. i was being incorrectly defected by an officer about 3 years ago. i said he was acting like an asshole.
he threatened me with arrest for disorderly behaviour (i think).
i ask why. he said i just called him an asshole.
i replied no, i said you're acting like an asshole, asshole.
his partner cracked up laughing.
the defect was worth it for that. haha

I suggest you "suck it up".
You crossed the line and got pinged.. That's how It works. Wrong place, right time for a Cop to be there.
And no need for childish "but he did it" comments - He didn't get caught!!!
And he's right, vehicles crossing centre lines do kill people - I've lost a couple of friends to this occurrence.
Are you sure your attitude didn't help intensify the situation?! :)

In Qld,you do not have to have your license on you if you are not on a provisional, but they can ask you to present it at a police station within 48hrs if they want to.
So mine stays in the work van all the time,if i am pulled over driving something else, well they won't be seeing it.
But i have to remember to take it with me if going interstate.
I use it more for ID,maybe asked once a year or so by police for a look.
Most times if they are following you they know the registered owner of the vehicle,if there are any outstanding things, etc, well before you actually stop.
