Yup, you can even reuse the OEM heatsink if you are a bit creative, I've done a couple of them with the stock coil and they're going fine.

I suppose a non genuine might work well, I've used one that hasn't blown up yet. Genuine on ebay is a bit cheaper than $88

NEW Genuine Bosch Ignition Module TO Suit Holden Commodore VC VH VK VL | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-GENUINE-BOSCH-IGNITION-MODULE-TO-SUIT-HOLDEN-COMMODORE-VC-VH-VK-VL-/261219561985?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd1e63201)

I've always got mine from Bursons, you could try an auto electrician and see if you can get a bit off retail.

Got a module from supercheap for $29:).Thats the good news.Bad news is didn't fix problem ,getting worse. Now will only start sometimes and only just runs sometimes.Got ignition checked by a repco mechanic before it totally died who said all good, must be fuel.Twice when i've started it it has cut out and tried to run backwards for a few seconds with smoke coming from air cleaner!!Will check fuel filter and pump over w end.Any more thoughts?

Dead and dying fuel pumps are common. As they draw more current as they get old they can also melt the connector plug on top of the pump housing or the harness connector above the rear muffler. Examine both carefully for blackened terminals. The pump itself is easy enough to change, get a VN Commodore in-tank pump kit and fit it to the Landy housing. You may have trouble getting the old pump off its hose, I've found that if I crush the plastic pump outlet with a block of wood or two, its easy then remove the bits. Then you clamp the hose to the new pump. You may have to change the electric plug to the pump. Bosch pump kits (BFP772) contain a spare connector and the inlet filter sock.

Check the battery voltage first.

Had similar issues on my County this week. Check that the reluctor (star shaped metal thingy under the distributor rotor) isn't rotating on the distributor shaft. The coupler ring under mine had broken into four losing the locator lugs. This was proceeded by rough running, intermittent backfiring thru the carbs and exhaust. I changed out the module, distributor cap, rotor and tried an old coil and leads before finding it. It was also cutting out and trying to run backwards before stopping. Might not be your problem but may be something to check? The coupler ring is included in a distributor small parts kit. Good luck with it.
Cheers Phil

Found the problem at last,i think.Went to depressurise fuel system at valve, got a dribble.Hmmm.Pulled fuel filter out, pipes were nearly rusted on,and blew it out, flushed it and blew it out again. Back together and away we go,running great.Pulled back into yard and splutted and stopped! No spark from dissy. All looks fine, changed caps,no go.Put old cap back on try again, saw dissy cap move!Pulled off cap and rotor contact loose.Try another rotor and bingo, going again:).Still going, idle a bit eratic but pulling well with BEE UTY'S module swap. Will play with timing and idle as time permits. Thanks to all who suggested cures:)
