New Garmin - how many updates?

I just bought a new Garmin 2597LMT and have plugged it in to get the latest updates.

How many updates are there?

I seem to be stuck in a loop updating and restarting and updating and restarting. Are they having a laugh or is that the way GPS units usually update?

No, it is not. Should load updated maps and install them on your device only in one go. Upto 4 times per year you can upload new maps.
Have you registered your product on the garmin website? Better to do so, and then if the upload does not work well, ask their support for help, you can do that via the website. Eventually you can ask for a return code which they should give you. You can then mail it back to them, and they will solve it for you.

Sorry my fault for not being more specific.
The maps updated OK, it is the systems upgrades that just keep going and going. It runs fine so I think I'll lay off the updates for a couple of weeks and try again.

All in all very pleased with the unit and the ease of connecting to a Mac.
