View Full Version : Temporary LED Trailer Workaround

Hi All,

I'm borrowing a mate's trailer for a week and it has LED lights. When I used it the other week I noticed that although the indicators, etc. all worked perfectly, my D4 did not actually 'recognise' that a trailer was connected.

This meant reversing sensors going ballistic in reverse and I believe the Trailer Stability system would be inactive.

I'm not overly bothered about the stability system as it's a small trailer and doesn't way very much but the reversing issue is a PITA.

I've read about fixes but they all seem to involve wiring bulbs into harnesses or buying some expensive shunt.

Is there a relatively quick, non-permanent fix for this issue?

Cheers,

Kev.

Damn....I thought that might be the case.

Are there details on this site covering the job, so I can work out if I'm just going to live with the noise or not...LOL???

Cheers,

I also had the same issue last year and just towed the trailer - all the lights worked as they should except for the little pulsing of the indicators on the trailer and the car not recognising the trailer.

The pulses were not really visible from following cars during the day (in sunlight) and at night with the led tail lights on the trailer the pulses in the indicators were visible but not an issue.

As all lights still work on the trailer and the pulses are just visible but not annoying, so for a one off trip I would just use it as is.

ou can now get from supercheap a bridging pack which is a bunch of resistors in a box that just plugs into the wiring

Quick fix for the sensors? Cover them! Mud works so I've noticed.

If you don't have electric brakes and are prepared to spend $60 you can buy an incandescent light board with long lead from BCF and boating suppliers. Strap this on the back of the trailer and plug in.

Tell me more about this bridging pac I could not find it on the supercheap website how much is it does it work?

You can turn the reversing beep down using the stereo volume if that helps.

All my trailers have LEDs and I can live with the reverse beeper, I can also turn it off with the switch, has that been left out on later models?

And, how much time are you planning in being in reverse gear?

Quick fix,
Buy length of trailer lead.
Buy 1 x socket of type you want.
Buy 1 x plug for vehicle.
Buy 2 x bulb sockets & 2 x bulbs. (these can be a combinted fitting which can easily be strapped to the a-frame when in use.

I just assembled on piece of wood and plug in to vehicle.
I also have various sockets for the different trailers I pull along behind.

Makes it easy to borrow etc....

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately in my MY10 D4 I can neither turn the volume down on the beeper nor turn it off.

I'll look at Repco and Supercheap etc, to see if there is an inexpensive option...might be worth investing in, as I assume LEDs will become more prevalent.

All else fails I'll live with it for this trip and as has been pointed out, I'm unlikely to be in reverse very often.

So here's a question, you turn DSC off in the sand....wouldn't the Trailer Stability Function in a D4 trigger in sand, creating a braking effect? Not that it will be an issue for me, as it won't be working anyway...LOL!!!

Cheers,

Kev.

For a D4 all you need is one of these wired in parallel to one of the indicator circuits, ie wired from the bulb positive to earth. Does not matter which circuit you choose, left or right. Cost about $10 - $12.

Prorgramatically, the TSA is an extension of the DSC module. When you switch "off" the DSC, there is not enough sensitivity in the system to trigger TSA. So you're all good
