View Full Version : New "90"..Delivery "schedule"?
Pickles2
5th September 2013, 09:46 AM
We ordered our "90" on 4th June, & were told delivery would be approximately 5 months.
According to our documentation, the build of our car should have commenced at Solihull yesterday 4/9?
Just wondering if there are any other new buyers on here who have been waiting for their Defender, and whether they received, or expect to receive it, on time?
Cheers, Pickles.

I ordered my 110 on 16 Feb 13 and received delivery on 25 May 13.
Five months seems excessive, maybe production schedule during mid year is longer. But don't despair, I waited 8 months for my VW but the anticipation was worth it.

From what I can remember the production and delivery of our 110 was about a month beyond the estimated delivery date in 2012. But I understand its all a bit random. Sometimes a dealer cancels an order for a spec that is already on the production schedule and if you've got a similar spec you can get jumped right up the list.
What I do remember is our dealer kept us advised of the progress of the vehicle once it left the factory because he knew we were interested.
Good luck getting your 90. Its an exciting time. We couldn't be happier with Hector :)
Cheers Alan

I will be buying a new 110 in April next year when my current lease expires :) so I have been looking at the car sales listings for a while too see what is available.
Can some one clarify...the dealer advertisements on car sales for new MY13 90's or 110's...would they actually be in stock or you only need to order six months ahead for a non standard build?
I don't want to wait 199 days till April 14 just to be told that i need to wait another six months for a vehicle:(

It depends upon what you want.
There are quite a few "options" available for Defender....but there are "Options", and there are "Accessories".....Options are installed online at Solihull, but accessories are fitted by your Dealer, in Aus.
So, if the "base spec" that you want could be located in Aus at the time of your order, your Dealer could probably access it from another Dealer in Aus, but if not, then it's gotta be built....hense the delay.
Our Dealer, ULR, informs me that they can easily sell every Defender they get.
At a yearly WORLDWIDE production figure of around only 16000, they ain't making a lot of 'em, & Aus takes only about 600, so....we are members of the "Exclusive Brethren"!
I reckon you should approach your local Dealer, grab a brochure, work out what your desired spec will be, & see what he says...will it have to be specifically built for you (as ours is), or not?

Hi Ozrob,
We went to the dealer today as they had a 90 and 110 wagon on display (WA) and when we said we weren't looking to take delivery until the middle of next year he said we could book a build spot by signing a contract and paying a deposit. So sometime around June next year I will take delivery of a new 110 Indus Silver wagon. :D The other part of this is that we have until the build commences to make any changes to the contract.

Out of interest - what was the earliest they could schedule build? And what delivery date would that end up being?
I want mine to be here for May next year

We didn't ask what the earliest date was as we weren't looking for a quick delivery. They said build time is about 4 months. So if you are looking for May you would probably need to sign by January. Easiest way would be to see a dealer. If they have one available in the specs you want you would be able to walk in and buy it straight away. We looked a couple of years ago and were given the same story as to the order process. LRA is allocated so many vehicles and they are then allocated to the dealers. If they have orders these are filled first and then any extra vehicles are distributed.
We signed as we wanted one but aren't ready to buy until next year and wanted to make sure we could get one before production stops. There were 4 (different models) in the yard which is the most we have seen for a while and we drive past the dealer a couple of times a week and always have a look to see what is on the floor.

Same story for me, and my original plan was sign some time between November and January. Looks like earlier in that window is better as I hear the boat is slow ;)
Anything different planned for the MY14 spec that you noticed on the features / options list? I heard a rumour (on the internet, so it must be true!) that ESC was planned for MY14.
I don't suppose you got any hints about production end dates? lol

Spoke to Dealer this morning, our vehicle now has a Vin No, and is scheduled to reach the Dealer on the 9th November, having been ordered on 5th June....I was told around 5 months at the time. Still, 50 days to go!
I was informed that all their allocation of 90s has gone now, so if they got an order, there'd be a 6 month wait.
Cheers, Pickles.

Thanks for the insights!
As much as I would love a 90 mine will be a 110 wagon in Keswick green with a fuji white roof if I get my way, or barolo black if swmbo prevails.
Either outcome works for me :D

Well, ours is Keswick, but after a substantial amount of difficulty, we have been able to organize an Indus Silver roof, which whilst not being appreciated by some forum members, we think, will fit in with what we are looking for.

Colour is always a matter of personal choice isn't it.
We've chosen Keswick for our "90", because we think it's sort of the "classic" Landrover colour.
"Black"?....With respect, I'd NEVER have a black car.....geez, though don't they look sensational when they're new, but I'm lazy, just too hard to keep clean...IMHO of course....bought a S/H black HDT Commodore years ago....it was black.....but I just had to have it.....but it was a big job keeping it pristine.
On the other hand, I have a mate who has a black Toyota Landcruiser...uses it every day for his business, & keeps it IMMACULATE, I've never seen it with even dust on it, he washes it a couple of times a week, says he finds it "therapeutic"!
So I reckon your wagon would be great in Keswick, & the optional white roof would be pretty close to the "Limestone" colour (I think) they used in the "old days".
Cheers, Pickles.

The dealer didn't have much information about any changes to next years models other than to say that they hadn't been notified of any major changes.
They didn't know when production was going to end other than that once all the build slots are full they will be told to stop taking orders.

Yeah that's it - but as I found the claim in a forum on the internet the usual rules apply... :p

You did read that I may have "limited" choice in the decision...
Yes colours are a very personal thing, my preferences are keswick or santorini black, but each to their own! On the other side of the coin I doubt I have ever looked at any of the factory colours (current and legacy) and thought they looked bad. Even the yellows ;)
I'm not known for keeping my cars clean, so no matter what colour mine ends up being I will take a picture of it as I drive it out of the yard, and that will likely be the last time it will ever is without mud on it.
Keswick green is the only colour that seems to make even a brand new car look 10 years older. At least when I look at it. Maybe it just adds character?
I'd rather have a black one than not have one at all :D
