Hey Guys

I have a Vanguard hard case for my current camera gear..

The case has been awesome and protected my gear for many years without any problems.

I'm considering getting another case (bigger) as I have started to acquire a fair bit of gear and I'm thinking of housing all my gopro stuff in with the DSLR.

My question is in my current case I use foam and since thinking about getting a new case I was wondering about the padded dividers

the only thing that concerns me is the padded divider does look as secure as the foam...can anyone comment on using a divider or even better can give me an honest opinion on using both and which is better?

I will likely get another Vanguard case as im really happy with th one I have.

here is a picture of their padded divider

Padded dividers are best. I've had both and foam is very good for securing a few items but you can hold a lot more in the same case with dividers. Foam traps dust, dividers can be cleaned.

but is there any movement with the dividers?

because looking at the pic above it looks like if the case took a jump in the back of the car so would all the lenses to a degree

That was my concern (with that particular setup), I would want a divider between each lens. Over a few thousand km there would be a lot of potential for the lenses to rub/vibrate against each other.

Not if it is packed correctly. The trick is to make everything fit. I use my cam-pod and camera/lens straps as an extra padding sometimes and also will locate dividers flat over lenses or other equipment (I've lot's of spares as they seem to multiply over the years). Never had a problem with jumping around any worse than with foam but I've had far less problems with dirt and dust in the case than I ever had with foam.

Foam deterioates with age. Having said that, it would be my first choice if replaced , say every ten years or so,( probably less) depending on circumstances. But once it starts to break up it gets into everything.:D As you guys know, roof linings in LandRovers sag because of the foam backing deterioating and breaking down, causing the lining to sag.

I once saw a camera case with quite expensive cameras and lenses inside, it hadn't been used for a while but the foam had literally got into every nook and cranny.

My 2c worth anyway.:D

My foam does not have any signs of deterioration or dust for that fact it looks new apart from the fact it has holes for the camera/lenses etc.

Well I had delivered another vanguard case today and to say I'm really wrapped with it is an understatement!!!!

My last vanguard (that I still have) I bought at the 4wd and camping show over 6 years ago $150 and if it wasn't for the fact it was too small I wouldn't be upgrading

This one was $160 the padded divider feels really good quality and can also be used as a carry case in its own right.

Now I just got to buy more stuff to fill those pockets!

Why is it that when they take advertising pics (like the one above) there's never any lens caps on anything ??

I know I thought the same thing...and they never show a pic with the camera and a lens on!

even though they can state you can do it
