Another successful trip to Pebbly Beach is over.
We had Spark71, Ralph1Malph & Auscam Paul arrive on the Thursday with myself, WhiteD3 and JohnR arriving about 3pm on Friday.
After a particularly arduous weekend of reading, sitting around, the odd work on the beach and up around the headlands, the occasional beer and of course camp fire everyone packed up after lunch on Sunday and headed off in the afternoon.
Thanks to everyone who attended and for making the trip very relaxing.
Special thanks to John R for pulling me out after I stuffed up the beach exit. I'm sure he has photos....

Thanks for organising this Dave. Great trip, company, spot, weather, etc.
Pics to come.
PS: So what happened on the beach exit?

Yes indeedy! Another great trip. We had never been to Pebbly before and were thoroughly impressed. Great weather, great company and great amounts of doing nothing!
I was most impressed that whilst the local 4WD bogans were around, access to the beach prohibits the commodore crowd and 'houseos' (from the show of the same name).
Thanks to all who attended and those who organised it and convinced us to go!:D
What happened to your exit Dave?

I just went too slow with the camper on and got bogged leaving the beach.

Ok, I put the disco over the pit this morning to give her a grease and oil change after the saltiness of pebbly.;)
Here's what I found:
1. Separated LHR sway bar drop link - accounts for the loud clunks.:(
2. Buggered LHF tie rod end. Accounts for the other clunks.:o
3. Rear brake pads past limits. That'd be the squeal under brakes.
4. Rear disks past limit. Accounts for some of the brake fade in conjunction with point 3.
There was some good news though. None of the fluids were contaminated.
Expensive trip in the end.
Cheers
Ralph

Star trails on Friday night. The camera is on the beach and the glow in the trees is our camp fire.

Thanks Dave. Ponder these sort of pics for a while and you can start to feel a bit insignificant!
PM me your email address and I'll send you a link.

Thanks Phil. The picture is made up of ~180 individual shots taken at f3.5, 30 sec, ISO 1600. The 180 images are then stacked and blended together so that the lightest pixel from each image is shown.
The camera is on the beach pointing south towards the pole so as the earth rotates on its axis the stars appear to spin around the pole. If you look closely at the stars on the far left you'll see they are individual dots; one for each shot. As you look closer to the centre they become a line.

So did you have to aim the camera carefully?
And what software did you use to do the layering?

Dave,
I used a very wide 10mm lens so aiming is easy. Focusing in the dark is the hard bit. The program I used for the blending is Startrax.

Here’s another view of the star trail pic I did but this time as a time lapse of 179 pictures. 23 seconds = ~ 3 hours.
Best viewed fullscreen, lights off, set the quality to 720.
