I have an urgent need to access files off an old dead computer's HDD, the machine was operating on Win98 before the power supply died.

IT hear at work may be able to do it, but the person is currently off and I need the files before friday morning.

I live in the inner South of Sydney near the airport but can travel.

Anyone have any ideas?

some computer places sell IDE-usb adaptors, plug the cable from the drive into that and grab a feed from anther computer for the power supply.

IT here one floor up can do it, but they're not on-site today and I don't know about tomorrow either. :(

I may have to liven up another Win95 computer and use that. (If I can remember the jumper settings :o )

Whip down to the local computer shop and get yourself one of these.

Pity it's urgent. I know people who are throwing them out.

Geez, I haven't forgotten my Win98OS after all, managed to install the drive as a secondary master, set up the CMOS and read the drive into my home network.

Can't be as stoopid as I thought! :D
