I did all the usual Landy nut awaiting a new car stuff almost a year ago. I got the name of the ship; tracked the ship to my home port of Fremantle; I went down to the docks to see my car; and photgraphed every white D4 with black leather I could see.

Where I like to think I took the weirdness to a new level is, I never stopped watching the docks to see what Landies have arrived. I also never stopped tracking the Asian Emperor around the world. (one thing I learnt is many ships are like taxis going where the fare is, not buses on regular routes, but I digress)

So I while driving past the docks I saw a car carrier berthed and naturally scanned what cars were unloaded and I saw an interesting sight.

No it wasn't a big mob of 2014 Rangie Sports, it wasnt even any Landrovers at all. It was dozens of cream coloured "London Taxis"

London cabs trial for the streets of Perth (http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/london-cabs-trial-for-the-streets-of-perth-20130822-2sduq.html).

It will be interesting to ride in one during the Christmas party season and ask the driver how it's going.

London taxis, in Perth? One problem, where are they going to find a cabbie that actually knows directions to anywhere? The Perth 'knowledge' must take all of five minutes to pass, the London 'knowledge' more like 5 yrs.

Still, last time I got a cab to the airport I had to send it away - no room for our luggage due to the gas tank in the boot! Purpose built cabs would sort that out I guess.

Do you have a link for that ? The company claims they're made in Coventry .

....owned by the same company that owns Volvo

... powered by VM :o

They were a flop in Sydney about 20 yrs ago. Cabbies hated them, couldn't cope with hills etc. The whole fleet ended up with Commodore V6 transplants, complete with Holden wheels. Haven't seen one in years.

Article clearly states they are made in Coventry, owned/backed by Chinese – like saying they make Land Rover in India…

I remember them in Sydney also, passengers complained about there comfort and that you couldn't get into the front from memory.

I think there is still one left.
