I bought the difflock version a couple of years ago. Makes changing oil a very quick and clean exercise :D The only issue with it is that it doesn't include a magnetic plug...

IMHO the Difflock design is superior to the Fumoto product ...the Difflock one has a screw-on protection cap and requires a separate brass drain fitting to be screwed in to release the oil, while the Fumoto oil release mechanism is exposed, making it questionable for off road use...

If your not going off road, collection/show cars, try an elbow ball valve and end cap from a hose supply co. We do this with earth moving gear to save taking off belly plates. Just a thought.

The Fumoto has a groove below the tap that takes a circlip or cable tie to secure the tap in place. It would have to be a hell of knock to dislodge. If anyone gets one and is really paranoid about it, a small hose clamp would fit.

This is one type we use for smaller applications. In your case you find an elbow that goes in place of the bung or drill and tap the bung to take an elbow. Then a bolt in the other end of the ball valve and your done. Probably lose an inch or so of clearance under the sump. Could always carry a spare bung????????????? Hope this gives you some ideas. I'm still trying to work out how to take the filter off the 300tdi without oil running everywhere

I would jack the chassis up to allow some more bump stop/ diff housing clearance, then cut the bottom 50mm off a 20 litre drum, or use an old oven baking tin, rest it on top of the diff and undo the filter.
Thats the method we use on the hoist....

why is it that land rover engineers have a perchant for making oil changes that ensure oil runs down your bloody arm!

Bloke I used to work with, fitter/mechanic, reckons that some mechanic must have slept with an engineers wife once, everything after that has been payback.

Hi there tonic,I use a 2Lt coke bottle with the top carefully cut off squeeze it up under the filter after you give the filter its first bit of movement then undo with your hand and carefully drop it into the bottle have a clean rag at hand to wipe remaining drops of oil off of the axle.P.s there is a product on ebay for sale that goes on before the filter that has high strength magnets built into it then you fit the filter onto it.problem solved. I used the Bushie (Martyn) method: a 2 litre milk container with the bum cut off. It fits around the filter nicely and you can unscrew the filter after loosening it.

Cut a 2 litre plastic milk "bottle" to the right length, lid on, slide it up over the filter, unscrew and let the whole lot drop into the bottle.
If you're careful you can extract the whole lot without spilling any.
