Gday all,

Theres some chat over on the expo thread about the need for some sort of identifiable sign for Aulro members to be able to recognise each other at events, and the prospect of a shirt has been mentioned.

Its either that or we work out a secret handshake.....

To that end, I have a friend that owns a Tshirt printing business in sydney and I can certainly facilitate it all.

So whomever it is that looks after merch for the site can you please contact me and I can get us a quote.

Just for an indication, how many people would be interested?

James.

A little tip when doing this, don't give people too many choices, set a design(AULRO Logo, with Inc's permission) and colour and go with that, any profits go back into the forum;)

Going on past shirt requests, you'll get a lot of takers, I've done 2 runs of shirts thus far, one for the AULRO Cape Trip and another for the 10th Birthday weekend, all had more shirts requested than the numbers of participents.

That's what we did and from memory Dullbird did the same when she did her run of shirts and Rugby jumpers.

Baz.

James.
I like the idea of secret hand hand shake, we could do a copy of the brothers in harlem,;) trouble is how do you idea the hand shaker recipient.
We could also have a ranking system like the stone masons, shake hands and place the pinkie on the ranking knuckle of the shake recipient hand.:D

Try to get a quote for ones with a pocket, as a lot of us carry notebooks and pens to write down names and details of vehicles.

I have one of the earlier ones which hasn't got that pocket which I rarely wear (no pocket) but it is of good quality and would recommend them.

Yep, for me, white shirt with a pocket is a must.
I think that adding usernames would just add complexity to the process of manufacture.
I personally would not want my name on it, I would rather remain anonymous with an air of mytery, so at first glance folks would be less likely to call me dick, eh.

This is obviously just my opinion so take it with a pinch of salt if you will

But

white is really not a good colour with the previous ones I have done and what other people have organised the shirts/jumpers etc usually get worn off roading out with organised aulro trips...

white wouldn't last 5 mins....

it will be a shame if a pocket does get put on because I probably wouldn't buy one as pockets dont look good on girls and in MHO pockets dont look good on T-shirts full stop.

No offence but I find it a real old man thing.

however

if you guys really want pockets then what about looking at a run of nice cotton drill shirts!! in a khaki, olive drab and navy blue or something like that?

Oh and I personally standby we should be using only the AULRO logo we are and have been our own identity for a very long time now AULRO will one day become a brand in its own right...its getting there already

Landy Smurf
16th September 2013, 07:18 PM
The polo shirts I was looking at came in white, navy and black.
I quite like the shirts I get for playing cricket, they are really comfy.
I do agree white would not be very good for events really as sweat and dirt would be noticeable really quick.
Personally for me I would not like a pocket but I dont really mind either way. I can definitely see the positives of a pocket and I know lots of people use them.

JamesB71
16th September 2013, 07:25 PM
Whites out for me. Ill save that for when I get to bowling age. I get too grubby.

Dullbird is spot on and well thought out.

Im much more likely to wear a khaki cotton drill shirt rather than a polo shirt any day. Especially if we are out driving somewhere.

I dont ever wear clothing with or have stickers on my vehicles.
I even used to unpic the labels on new jeans.
I dont get paid to carry other peoples advertising.
I would make an exception for AULRO, in fact it would be the only shirts I would wear when I leave home in Me Disco with me Pith helmet on the back seat.
I dont ever get dolled up any more and cant be bothered shaving either, in fact I dont even own a pair of dress shoes or shirt and an old pair of jeans is my only long duds.
But with an AULRO shirt what more would a boy need to be presenable and envied in any company.

white - probably not

polo design with collar - yes

pocket (for boys) - yes

AuLRO logo (only) - yes

As a side note about the use of LR. I recently dropped into British Off Road chasing a new cap. They are currently out of stock and before they get anymore, they need to resolve an issue with using "Land Rover" on them. I think the public use of "LR" is going to become more of an issue as time goes by.

at the moment we are looking at stylish polo shirts with discrete pockets that suit men and women, young and old ;)

getting a mix of colours in the right style is the priority at the moment.

then there is the question of screen printed vs embroidered etc etc

we are working through the issues to get a good quality product at a reasonable price point..

i agree with dullbird on the subject of white... it lasts 3 micro seconds on me...

but i am trying to get something where it may be an option as many like it...

I can understand the reasoning behind not wanting a white shirt but for me the AULRO shirt would be for Sunday best and going out in. White is a neutral colour that will go with any colour shorts and elastic sided boots.
I wear any old thing for work and play, usually cheapies from Rivers which are actually good quality.
I like a pocket because it comes in handy for putting reading glasses in when going to the super market. I like to check that what I buy is not halal
or made in japan. Where I can, I buy Australian made only. I am very fussy about fruit and vegies not being imported and properly branded milk.
The new lenses that I had fitted to my eyes are for longer distances.
You could say that I could put stuff in the pockets of my shorts but then where would I put my hands ?

Yes please here for two! I'm the same tho... Defo not white! Just my opinion, but there are lots of shirts around that are deep green with Land Rover Logo's... Most of the CFS (Country Fire Service) shirts are green too, and they all look very dated... We are now moving to a deep blue with either white or gold print/stitching. The user name would be a 'nice to have' but as said b4, probably a logistical nightmare. Not only that, if you order two, SWIMBO won't want hubby's user name on her shirt!! Cheers all! :)

I used to wear my 60th Anniversary long sleeve shirt with pockets to work when I was teaching part time. Ironing it was a bit of a pain. Since I retired (again), I have worn it every time I have gone camping in Bendethera with other AULROvians.

My 60th Anniversary and 10th AULRO Anniversary polos get worn anywhere that smart casual is appropriate. When I wore it to the National Gallery in Canberra my 60th Anniversary polo led to a lengthy conversation with another gallery visitor who was also at Cooma (with his Series I, lucky devil).

As to the long sleeved shirts...

a company here make good quality shirts, dual pockets, They come in both three button or full button up. Numerous colours but I prefer khaki or a colour they call 'ringer blue' in the far north here. (A mid blue colour).

These shirts are $45 ea but maybe a better price could be negotiated?

They could be embroidered or screen printed. They wear well and I believe are a great shirt. I prefer the thicker canvas types they previously did but in warmer areas the ones here are ideal. They look good and can be worn as a work type shirt or out (if you get off your arse and wave an iron at them!! :) )

This is the company BBB...

http://www.bbboutbackclothing.com.au/linked/catalouge.pdf
ms 601 or ms605

here is another company doing a similar shirt (good quality as well)
rb sellars..
Work Shirts - Mens - RB Sellars (http://www.rbsellars.com.au/shop/mens-d1/workshirts-c54)

they do 3 button, full button both long or short sleeve...lot of options here to decide on (I always have long sleeve and roll them up)

These are same type as BLUEDOG clothing and a few others. BLUEDOG is very popular with outback people because of the quality but the price point is higher.

anyway thats my 5c (2c rounded!)

I like the design of the 'sticker shirt' , smurf!! Nice Job again... That would make a good poster!! (mine displays on a backing board in the windscreen and looks great!) ...if we remove the l/r symbol and centre the bottom line we could avoid any legal probs and honestly I'd love one! If they don't start conversation...nothing will (how about AULRO front emblem on breast and maybe with nickame... and that back...?)

Maybe it should be called BLACKNIGHTS sticker as Justin did all the work (which was considerable) on them.

Copyright law only exists to keep the companies happy, and the lawyers rich.

Essentially, I cannot make a product with a logo on it, that has a copyright owned by someone else, and then sell that product. Unless I have written permission, of course.

I have the ability to make lots of things out of timber, and many of them would have logos of well known, world wide companies on them. However, because I like my house & car, I will not sell them, and if I ever do make them, they are for my own personal enjoyment.

So if you are selling a product that has a logo on it, or a facsimile of a logo, and you do not own the copyright to that logo, then you could be removing the lid on the worm can....

That said, I will be in for a shirt or 2 as well... :D

There seems to be two relatively loose camps. In the interests of having as few logistical issues as possible, Im suggesting two options only.

Correct me if you absolutely cant accept one of the options below:-

* Blue polo style shirt with logo as per Dullbird above. Available in mens, womens and childrens cuts.

*Khaki cotton drill shirt with front Aulro emblem with long sleeves and two pockets.

Inc, what do you reckon? User names seems to add a whole level of complexity. If we get them generic people can take them to the local embroidery place and have their name added if they really want to, and you can stock some for future sales if you wish.

Happy to discuss further,

James

What about some embroided AULRO logo's also, sold seperatly so that we could have them sown on to a shirt of choice ?

As well as suitable shirts of course.

Generic makes sense, then if anyone backs out,at least you can just put it on the shelf until they or someone else comes along and wants to purchase.

Polo shirt looks great
Drill shirt looks great

If this gets of the ground I shall definitely take one of each. Probably go for two of the shirts, so I can just smother one in grease, oil, lunch, dinner, tea, beer and wine and, with any luck, keep the other for EXPOs and 4x4 shows.

Embroidered patches would be good for people to customise their own garments....it might be good for a favourite winter camping beanie, flanno or a jumper/ fleece.

Agree that names on the back introduces unnecessary complexity and people can sort this out themselves.

Great job guys.

Ditto here.
Are you talking along these lines?
(Photo cropped to avoid visual trauma on viewers)

Exactly along those lines. I don't want to push my bias though. I dress like that whenever I'm in the bush.

This would be my choice, the logo top left, I used this Logo on my shirts, and from memory this was used in weeds 60th shirts and beanies.

Simple and good looking design and approved by Inc, basically the forum logo as in the header top of the page

I too like the look of this one with Redbacks pick for Logo...still wear both of mine with pride when out with the Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi etc crowd!!

I really like the jersey that was done, it would need redesigning to get rid of the 2 land rover logos but would still look great.

there is nothing wrong with the Aulro logo with the land rover badge just removed no redesigning needed I dont think.

I have been advocating this for a while now.

I tried to get the stickers done a while ago with just the aulro logo and a clear background

This was done in 2009 ;)

Black at the time represented a clear background

I think the AULRO logo is a good design and should be used as its own identity:)

The "Subaru" logo is actually an image of the "Pleiades" star cluster, and it is known as "Subaru" in Japanese.

The green is from the 60th at Cooma, this I bought from Weeds, who arranged the shirts for it, the Black background is from our Cape trip in 2009

This idea gets my vote.

To be effective, a logo should be identifiable with what itrepresents and the basic design should not be tampered with by adding, removingor changing anything.

The design used for the 10th Anniversary shirts looks good and meets the above criteria. It included the Land Rover oval, the Southern Cross and the full wording of the acronym - AULRO. By including all of this, non members who see the logo either on a shirt, a sticker on your car or wherever, will have an immediate understanding of what it is all about and if interested in Land Rovers will soon be punching ‘AULRO.com’ into their keyboards to discover more. On the other hand, if all they see is AULRO.com they won’t have a clue what it’s all about, are none the wiser and will simply dismiss what they have seen.

I don’t think there is or will be a problem with using the Land Rover oval as it is already used internationally in numerous ways by clubs, businesses and other organisations. In fact, I recently wrote to LRA enquiring about its use and was not told that we couldn’t use it. Provided it’s used in good faith and promotes the brand then why would they want to restrict its use?

Therefore for my 2c worth, we should stick with the design that was used for the 10th Anniversary as the basic AULRO logo. Anything extra such as username or some special event description (10th Anniversary or Cape York 2009 etc) could be added BELOW the logo. I have received numerous positive comments regarding the logo when wearing my 10th Anniversary shirt.

I just want to clarify here Roger as I think you have some potentially misleading wording in here

did they say "providing its used in good faith and promotes the brand" or is this your opinion.

you said that they didn't say you couldn't use it, more to the point did they say you could?

and did you ask the permission of LRA or did you ask the permission for Land Rover UK I would of thought the permission would be sort through UK not Aus

Xtreme
17th September 2013, 11:08 PM
Yes Lou, I was careful with my wording as I didn't receive a written reply from LRA (not UK) to my written enquiry, only a phone discussion. It seems that, although willing to discuss by phone, they were unwilling to commit with a hardcopy answer. Following discussions with more learned people it seems that they may have adopted this position due the already extensive use of the oval referred to in my earlier post, most of which permission had not even been requested.

I think its important though that we keep in mind the purpose of the AULRO logo and be satisfied that the purpose is met with the final design.

Naturally, the final adopted logo design is entirely in Inc's hands and I'm sure we'll all be happy with whatever he decides as acceptable.

I was only throwing my 2c worth in with regard to logos and understand your request for clarification.

Righteo, lets not let the momentum drop.

To anyone who has done this before, how did you collect orders? Inc, can you do it through the web page with a form or something?

incisor
18th September 2013, 09:27 AM
the 10th anniversary logo design is my personal preference

orders and payment can be done thru one of my secure online shops.

the orders then placed to the supplier by who ever is acting as co ordinator and the money paid directly to the supplier from the funds received with the orders

i would want to be seeing costings based on orders based on 10, 50 and 100

previous experience has taught that what you order isnt always what gets delivered at the end of the day so i would like to see samples myself.

then there is the dispatch of the goods to individuals and payment to the co ordinator for the costs to dispatch.

i would suggest 3kg express post bags as costs will be know and there is a garantee of delivery @ about $13 a bag.

Or just do the artwork and outsource it to a service like cafepress.com who will then pay Inc a commission on each sale without any further work. That way people can have a broad choice of garments, styles (eg pockets/no pockets) & colours. Garments are shipped as ordered and no need to do runs or collect money.
