I have just tried sifting through the forum, but can't really see the answer to my question, sorry for any duplication.

I am a relatively new Defender owner, and a short while ago I purchased some after market (brand unknown) alloy rims from a disco 1. Before fitting I had a set of cooper 265/75/16 STMaxx's fitted, which are a great tyre but the tyre size and rim offset cause a few issues in a greatly reduced turning circle ( rubbing on radius arms) and also scrubbing on the top of the rear spring turrets and also front spring turrets when flexing.

I know the answers is get smaller tyres, but too late for that. Just wondering if anyone else is running the same size tyres - a solution to the rims. Not sure if defender 130 steels are an option ( if I can find them) or any other ' reasonably ' priced alternatives. I only use the wagon for general use and towing the camper, no crazy stuff.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Regards,

Matt.

I had the same problem with Range Rover Rims & that size tyre. The Defender will fit the same rim right back to the Series Land Rovers - but they are 5.5" not 6" as with Defenders.

Most tyre shops can get in rims, suggest 7" and an offset of 12mm if you can - that is the most & remain legal.

Here is one place that sells them, but I'm sure there will be someone local.

265/75R16 requires as a min rim width of 7" and arguably the 8" rim. You would be pushing the envelope to fit them to a wolf 6.5" rim off a 130. Besides the offset of the wolf rim may not remedy the rubbing.

An offset of +10 ish to -10 ish will be the ideal range to minimise rubbing on the radius arms and rubbing on the rear spring upper mount. Anything beyond -10 mm you will find your tyre sitting too proud for standard flares. You can wind out the stops on your swivels to avoid the radius arm rub but you will correspondingly reduce your turning circle.

It's illegal but you can buy 30mm spacers to convert a disco 1 rim (+33mm offset) to a 0 mm offset with no real side effects (i run that set up on 33" muddies and no ill effect on the bearings over several years) or most aftermarket steelies are 0 mm offset which is perfect on standard flares.

FYI for next time, the 235/85R16 is the same or marginally larger rolling diameter to the 265/75 without the issues you are encountering.
