Thanks to Otto Instruments for supplying the VDO temp gauge. I can now have some level of comfort with the temps of my cooling system. (along with the low coolant alarm).
The install was pretty straight forward - remove the old gauge and replace with new. Same for the sender. Was glad to see the old/original gauge gone as it never moved off "C".
I installed the VDO tacho a while ago...also supplied by Otto Instruments (JohnR on this forum)
Happy days

Hi Andrew,
Is that an electric or mechanical gauge? It looks the same as my mechanical one, I'm just wondering if they do a 270 deg sweep electric.

VDO do a clock in the cockpit range.

Thanks TonyC, what are they like, reliable and do they keep the correct time, my original clock only has the correct time twice a day.:D

They are VDO so I would expect them to be fine.
I have VDO mechanical Temp and Oil pressure, from the cockpit range, in my 130, and have used VDO gauges in other cars without a problem.

It should do. The thermostat doesn't start opening until 88deg.

Pretty sure the TDI thermostat starts opening at 82. Fully open at 88.
My Disco TDI sits around 88-90 in the city - average driving conditions. That's with original 1995 radiator.

Mine generally runs between 85 & 90 probably closer to 85.

Just wondering where the sender for the temp gauge is? Mine does some odd things and I think it might be playing up.

What vehicle/engine are we talking about ? It will generally be around the thermostat housing somewhere.

G'day Andrew
What is the part number from Lionel Otto?
I'm really keen on getting one of those.
Where is the sender located?

I was pointed to this today.

It's a bit "bling" for a Defender, but it flashes and has an alarm when pre set thresholds are exceeded

Part number is 180 077 022. Comes as a kit. Gauge and sender are connected with a capillary tube wrapped in stainless braid. Tube is 1600mm long
On the 300tdi, the sender is just under the thermostat housing on the Drivers side.
Cheers
