Shake rattle n roll @ 90k's

My 84 model 110 (Isuzu) has an annoying issue that started with a vibration transferred up the steering to the steering/wheel, today after travelling to Newcastle coming home it was hard to drive above 90k's, the steering wheel just shakes violently, 'pan hard bushes' thinks I!?.
Well swmbo was swinging the steering from side to side there was a small amount of play in the bush under the S/box RHS, LHS was still firm, so I removed said panhard rod and replaced the bushes, great thinks I, wrong!!:(:mad:
After taking it for a drive it's still shaking @ 90.
Back home again jack up LHS check the swivel pins, a tiny bit of movement somewhere, I could hear a metalic noise, check bolts all very tight, remove the plastic cap n circlip, undo 5 bolts remove drive member, something wrong here I could move the hub ever so slightly ?? excessive play on outer wheel race, undo the hub nuts only to find that for some reason both are turning???:o, both nuts come off together (yes I know about the locking tab and it is supposed to be bent over both nuts, but it wasn't, anyway it all came off).
I nipped up the inner nut, put wheel back on no more movement/noises:D, reassemble the hub etc and take for a drive, it's still shaking badly ??? but not no where as bad, ??? could my problem be a wheel out of balance? or my steering stabiliser is kangaroo edward?? anyone know?? cheers Dennis
ps a whole damn day wasted that I could have spent on my Series 1 or trying to find out if I have a blockage in the carb on my S2A Bloodbox,,.

Pretty much anything loose in the front end can thrash around and amplify any other vibrations.
Have you checked the tie rod ends on track rod and drag link?
Out of balance wheel (or a loose one), tyre delamination or out of round, mud buildup inside a wheel....

I have checked the tie rod ends & drag link, no movement detected there, LOL no mud build up on any of the wheels, my first thought was ?? loose wheel nuts, but with my 3/4" drive ratchet etc I only managed to move each of the wheel nuts by a fraction of an inch :( cheers n thanks for your response Dennis:angel::(

I had the same problem once. If you do a search you may find a few threads on this.
After replacing nearly the whole front end.... bit by bit, it was the not very old steering damper. It had a little bit of movement in it that started shaking the steering wheel, then got worse and worse.
I took it off, stood it upright, ran it up and down its full range of movement a few times and put it back on.
Fixed it for around 8 months so I then replaced it.

Dennis any mechanical component in stearing can cause the problem and it appears you are systematically checking also check unijoints, shock absorber bushes (had similar problem on brown one),stearing damper ,wheel weights,joints on stearing rod and their clamps all bushes and nuts etc

Stupid as it sounds , I had a very similar problem, tried replacing the rubber in the bushes etc with poly, didn't help, alignment/balance no real improvement, only when I rotated the tyres did it disappear! :bangin:

At 0700hrs I was down at one of the local tyre fitters, front wheels off, LHS had thrown a wheel weight, both were rebalanced $20.00 all fixed no vibration right up past 100k's:D now back to work on my Series 1 LOL:) cheers and thanks for all the responses, Dennis:angel:

Good to hear that you found the cause and it was rectified easily.

Don't overlook the fact that this problem also led you to detecting and rectifying the problem with your hub nuts and lock washer that could have ended in a bigger problem if you hadn't been alerted to it. Sometimes we have to be thankful for these minor problems occurring. ;)
