My 2007 FL2 TD4 has had this intermittent problem ever since I have owed it, when the Air conditioning stops working.
The wife was driving it to day and had to pick up some stuff at the shops. A/C worked fine. from there she went to pick up the kids from day care, not working. After picking up the kids working again.
When it does it the A/C clutch does not engage and the radiator fans do not run. There is no faults stored in the climate control ECU.
Has anyone else had this issue and had a repair?
Thanks Luke

I have found out what was causing the intermittent A/C on my FL2. I narrowed it down tho the A/C compressor clutch, as i could get it to cut back in on wiggling the plug on the clutch. I removed the plug to the clutch and couldn't fault it. On removal of the clutch, this is what I found, There is a connector between the clutch and plug to the car and this was full of mud and corroded, I have marked the tabs that you need to bend so you can remove the connector. in the 2nd pic you can see the terminals, they have been sprayed with contact cleaner.

Nice work woko. I have just had my FL2 air con drop out twice in the last few weeks for seemingly no reason. I suspect that it will be something akin to what has happened to yours. Although mine is the Petrol it may have the same aircon set up.....

They are different part numbers for the compressor from a petrol and diesel but the compressor would be the same brand and probably have a similar setup.

After some searching on the net and some pulling together of symptoms and remedies of a few different Freelander 2's with AC and or overheating probs I have found that in my case, with the 3.2 petrol the cutting out of the A/C at idle was a symptom of the thermo fan being shot.
The car is smart enough to recognise that the AC puts load on the engine, therefor producing extra heat, and shuts it down when engine temps get too high in an attempt to self protect. After fixing my thermo fan with some new brushes my air con works all the time now with no cutting out and no getting hot. :)

What were the brushes out of to fit the fans?
Mine has not missed a beat since cleaning up the terminals.

The brushes weren't out of anything in particular. I couldn't buy them for this fan as the fan is 'not user servicable' :D but I did get it apart and managed to buy brushes from here Selection OF Larger FAN Motor Brush Sets B NEW | eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150671447868) . They were the nearest fit but had to be sanded down on one edge to fit. Also had to cut and join the copper connecting straps to the originals and insulate them as they become a little bulky inside the housing and can (will!) short out on the body of the fan.
