Parked next to an Orkney coloured Puma in Cottesloe yesterday - it was seriously well equipped, i was impressed. Roll cage, custom rack, raised suspension (i think), etc etc. What surprised me most though was what looked like a galvanised chassis.

I knew this was an option for restorers, but consider this to be an amazing thing to do to protect or enhance a new car - presumably requiring a full strip-down?

Is this a factory option? Anyone know the car? 110 with no back windows

That's not a Puma, a Puma bonnet maybe. It's got the vents under the screen and if it was bought over as per registration on a H plate it's gonna be old. It's probably a 300Tdi.

H plate is 1990 I think.

Which would make it a 200Tdi... air intake on the wrong side though... possibly an complete rebuild of an old 110 (pre-Defender)...

Bit of an enigma!

No matter how you look at it though, it's a nice job.

Looks totally Puma to the untrained eye (mine). I thought on those plates it was a 2013 model

Awesome machine

Always look for the screen vents, one of the defining designs of the Defender lost in the Puma :(

I saw a single-cab ute Puma defender in Cervantes (i think) last weekend that had bonnet hump and open screen vents. Looked brand new.

Sam,

The Puma bonnet is very strong and obviously very distinctive. Its a popular mod in the UK to fit Puma bonnets to make car look newer.

The bulkheads of post 2007 Defenders haven't got openings in them for the flaps, so 99% chance its an older refurb wearing a Puma bonnet or a 1% chance of someone missing his flaps so much that he cut them back in...

The only real "surface" distinction would be the interior dash arrangement to identify it as a Puma (although a couple blokes have fitted Puma dashes to older Deefers!).

Cheers,

Lou

Yep, aware of the differences... just stumped me that it looked so new, it mustve been a replacement i guess. Surprises me also that LR body parts are interchangeable over such a large number of model years. They really havent developed this thing at all over the last couple of decades. Part of the charm i think.

Puma aircon AND pre '07 flaps would be worth having i think! Small matter of a large lump of plastic in the way though
