hi guys

my original tyres have lots of chips out of them - see attached pic. is this normal for the OEM Goodyears? I haven't done much offroading at all, and they have done about 40,000ks.

i think i am going to buy some pirelli scorpion ATRs

cheers

Based on the wear on my OEM Goodyears (~22k) I estimate I'll only get ~ 40k from them. So I would say yours look about normal.

New tyres are on my shopping list too sometime in the near future.

You've done well to get 40k out of them as they are not suitable for any kind of off road work. Scorpion ATR are a good tyre.

Not wanting to brag, but I'm about to get 100000km's out of my Cooper STC's and still have about 4mm of tread left. The "C" stands for chip resistant and believe they have faired much better than the normal ST's. They should be good for at least another 10000k, but obviously their off road abilities are getting down.
I'd think about going the newer ST Max's
This is the 3rd set of Coopers I had over the past 10 years and don't have any complaints, some do and am sure there be a few responses shortly.

I have been using coopers since 2002.....can't fault them.

Mine look the same, and have just clicked over 40,000 too. So it seems about par. I have been doing a 5 wheel rotation and replacement with a set of A/T's is not far away.

Thanks for posting that picture :clap2:
Mine look similar but considerably worse i.e. far more "chipping" personally I would not call that chipping but don't know what to call it, neither do any of the tyre folk up here in Cairns that I have consulted, but it is identical to what yours show.

Mine have 35K on them still more tread left than yours but chipping is worse, have done quite a bit of high speed dirt and stony roads, the rest up and down the Kuranda range road, and a trip to Sydney and back with a 3 tonne van on the back (7500klms).

Have replaced them with Baz's old 17" rims with Kumo's on, they have totally changed my vehicle for the better. Thanks Baz !
