over reving

Hi guys. Hopefully something easy.
My daughter was driving my 2008 puma defender yesterday and I chipped her a few times because as she was accelerating it was reving up when she was changing up gears as though she was leaving her foot on the accelerator a bit as she was up shifting. I apologized to her today as it was doing it to me as well. It's never done it before and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what to look for to correct this.

1st thing I'd check is your tail lights. I had a stop light that kept blowing (water was in the housing) Whenever the bulb was out, the car would hold onto revs during a gear change. Once the bulb was fixed, the over revving went away.

It might be some subtle warning that you have a fault or else just something peculiar to my vehicle.. :eek:

Strange things these landrovers,why would a a tail light do that..I dont doubt you for a second. Probably completely irrelevant but I have a 30 year old suzuki with a voltage solenoid on the carby..revs go up when I turn the radio on ..but a landy..

I know it's weird huh.. thinking about it now it was the fuse blowing, not the light. The fuse blew a few times before I realised the fault was water in the housing. I could tell when the fuse had blown because the car immediately over-revved during gear changes. I would replace the fuse and the car would go back to normal immediately.

Thanks so much. Just checked the brake lights and they were not working. Checked for water in the housing as i had washed my truck the day before. There was no water in the housing but the fuse was loose in the fuse holder. cleaned and re-installed and the brake lights worked. Will try the over revving thing in the morning. On all accounts should hopefully have cleared up the over revving.

My td5 130 has fits of doing the same thing, normaly if I am driving it hard and trying for quick gear changes. I have led tail lights fitted.

Yes it did.As iclick said. I don't know how it is possible because they are not really connected but it certainly worked. The fuse in mine was not blown but it had come loose and was not making contact.
