Hi all, not sure if there is an alternative to using the LR special tool (600000) for disconnecting the steering drop arm? I wonder if anyone here has one they no longer need for sale? I see a new one on ebay UK sells for over $100 plus shipping. Not a tool I expect to need once my rebuild is finished.
Many thanks,
Garry

I've just finished milling out the opening in a cheap Pitman arm puller to fit. I think it cost about $25.
Gap needs to be 1 5/8"

That's identical to the one I bought at the Vic Market hardware stall!
This guy has a really good range of those El Cheapo special tools eg pullers, caliper spreaders etc etc.
It's worth having a squizz if you are stopping by for a bratwurst roll or a borek.

great tip Colin, thanks so much.
I have ordered a Pitman Arm Puller (the kids fell about laughing when I told them there is a tool with such a great name) and I will let you know how I go with making adjustments to it.
cheers,

I know this is a very old thread but will this modified puller work for upper and lower steering relay arms as well...........they don't appear to have the little shoulders the pitman arm has. (referring to a 2a)

You should not need a puller on these as they are clamped, not on a tapered spline. The clamp bolt must be completely removed - it fits in a groove in the splines, and if necessary the split can be expanded slightly with a wedge such as a cold chisel, and the arm will just lift/fall off. Even if it is so rusty a bit of a pull is needed, a bearing puller will do the job.
