I am sure that there is an obvious answer to this, but it has me beaten at the moment.
I have just bought a 2001 Discovery TD5 and noticed a rattle coming from the acoustic cover over the engine. The right hand side is securely fastened direct into the engine block, but the left side was unsecured. I found the bolt in the jack bay, but I can't see how to fasten it back into the square hole. Is there a fixing part missing?

Yes! X2 missing captive nut that the bolt screws into.Make sure you have the rubber grommit in the bolt hole on that side of the cover.
Temp. fix is a cable tie to hold in place.Other option, remove altogether and store in garage.

Thanks! That explains the cable tie lying on the chassis under the engine!

When I had a leak in my fuel cooler, I took the whole plate off and welded a nut securely into that square hole - end of problem. Just had to be careful with the angle that the nut ended up at.

I would suggest leaving the cover off, I have taken my cover & turbo heat shield off, you can see any rocker cover oil leaks, & any issues in the area of the oil cooler/ exhaust manifold. Haven't had any problems associated with having them off , yet. Bob
