My daughter has some small babywear on ebay. She has sold one item for $2.50 but the cost of postage plus small post bag, the weight of which is minimal still costs $8.00 So she is out of pocket $5.50 for one sale and now she has a second sale to process for a similar loss. These charges are ridiculous. Jim:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

$8.00 postage! That's cheap.
Be a good dad and deliver it for her.

If she chose to advertise free postage of course she will be out of pocket! sure, aus post rates have increased somewhat recently but it is all available online, no surprises

The loss is small change, she should post at a loss just to make the feedback score. Then purchase some prepaid post bags and make sure whatever she sells fits in them. Never guess postage again.

e.g.

10 X 500G Post Satchel Prepaid RRP $8 25 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10-X-500g-Post-Satchel-Prepaid-RRP-8-25-/321229776710?pt=AU_Envelopes_Bags_Boxes&hash=item4acac96746)

I've been told that some mail-order vendors make a respectable profit from the 'handling' portion of the shipping...

American vendors have raised this to an Art-Form... not only on evilBay.

Case in point from a few years ago. Needed a pair of headlight globes for (grey) Jap import car, H4H - Domestic Market only... ("JDM")

- Did'nt matter where I went int he US, East, West coast, central or Alaska... was going to be $100 the pair. Either $99.95 with $FREE 'shipping', or $19.95 and $80 shipping...and everything between via US Postal Service or DHL or Space Shuttle... etc.

Finally found a place that charged a reasonable price for them, and posted via USPS Flat rate box. - which is on the US Postal Service website.

Bought extra sets 'cos they were honest.

- And a good reputation, even on something as fickle as evilbay, is worth almost any price.

those charges don't sound right to me, if she could use a a4 or a3 envelope and the item can squash down below 20 mm and weigh under 500 grams the max she would pay would be $3.00

Needed one of those padded bags. I checked a parcel to me from Qld in a small padded bag with postage of $1.20. Local postmaster said there is a flat rate of all parcels up to 500gm of just over $6.
