Should we use belts with notches on the outside or the inside?

if the pulleys are vee style, you don't mention this, then the cogs are on the outside. These belts are designed to grip a little harder and go round the curves easier without stressing the belt. This all means they last longer and grip better.

Yes harry, sepentine belts are great, unless they break
The mighty 3.5V8 has a variety of pulleys and belts, all V shaped ( is there any other kind :?: ) some have the cogs on the outside and some inside,, is it more to do with the size of the pulley?

8) sorry pedro, i couldn't resist it, some belts have notches on the onside and ,i'd call them bumps on the outside, these are generally called toothed belts,[jf1056 is on track] the v belts fit in the v of the pulley, its easy to check, try putting the belt on a pulley each way, the way that sits in the pulley groove best is the v'eed side, should fit in almost flush with the outside diameter of the pulley, have fun.
