Hi all,

Acquired a series 2a yesterday and I'm trying to find the vin.

VicRoads vin requirement:

"Letters and Numbers only. Must be 17 characters in length. Cannot include I, O or Q. Must contain at least 1 alpha and 1 numeric character."
I can find a 9 character chassis number (8 digits followed by a G).
I can find a 4 character body number althought I can't tell if the first character is an F, or if it is an I or 1 with some scratches.
I can find a 7 digit body serial number.
Some old VicRoads paperwork shows a barely readable 'vin' which appears the same as the chassis except the last letter appears to be an S.

CalVIN shows the model as
Model: Land Rover, Series IIA
Body type: Station wagon
Wheel base: 109in
Engine: 6-cylinder
Model years: 1966-1971
Destination: Completely knocked down (CKD), right-hand drive (RHD)

GDesign: Six significant design modificationsSuffix used from April 1969 till October 1971

or

SDesign: Significantly modified, no further details known
As none of the numbers are 17 characters long, and combinations don't add up to 17, I suspect VicRoads introduced a 17 character vin at some later stage. Does anyone know when? Does the series 2a pre-date the 17 character vin?
