Depending on the phone you just need to go to the settings and turn it off.

On my iPhone 6 Plus it's easier to just use the browser.

I can't figure how to start a new thread, or how to get it to load more than the first few threads below the stickies in the L319 section.

There is you just need to be in the forum you want to post in (it won't work if you're viewing a thread?). Long press the bottom right button in android (bottom left on a samsung) and a menu should show up at the bottom of the screen - its the button that if you short press all your active applications show up so you can scroll through them.
Cheers

No problems starting a new thread using the AULRO app on my iPhone. ;)
Simply push the https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/1050.jpg (https://postimage.org/) button in the top right corner of the screen, and then select "New Topic" from the drop down menu that appears.

I had problems using the AULRO app after my phone was upgraded to Android 5, and my tablet to Android 6.0. Previously on 4.4, I had no bother, but after the upgrade many of the buttons don't work, or aren't visible.

Same here. Did a system update today and now the refresh button has disappeared and posts are blank.

Brilliant thanks, never knew the Samsung did that!
Is there an instructions sticky somewhere that I should have read to know that?
