I have a few BCF gift vouchers burning a hole in my pocket so I have decided to buy a PLB or a small EPIRB.

Looking at this PLB (the only one they sell) GME MT410G GPS Personal Locating Beacon - BCF (http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/GME-MT410G-GPS-Personal-Locating-Beacon.aspx?pid=135504#Cross)

Or this EPIRB (not much larger than the PLB) GME Digital EPIRB - 406Mhz, GPS - BCF (http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/GME-Digital-EPIRB-406Mhz-GPS.aspx?pid=273707#Cross)

The main question I have with these two is when the battery life has expired what sort of cost is involved in getting the batteries changed.

The GME site gives no costs but the Epirb does come with one free battery change.

Any ideas.

Cheers

If my memory is correct, I believe you need to return it to an address nominated in the paperwork supplied, covering postage costs both ways. Battery replacement is free.

You are aware that the PIB cannot be legally used on board a boat as an alternative to an EPIRB. The prohibition is related to battery life.

Yes, the battery can be replaced, but needs to be done at an authorised location/repairer.
