Just wondering if anyone has an LT230 lifting bracket they'd be prepared to lend me for a few days? Eastern suburbs of Melb. would be ideal.

Um trolley jack with a bit of plate will do the job;)
If you have access to a welder some off cuts of any shape style steel welded on to determin the right angle of the TC before you take it out did it for me .
Not everything in the the manual has to be brought to do a job you know

I care about my personal safety and don't particularly want to be under a vehicle by myself with 60Kg of transfer case teetering on the rounded surface at the bottom of the case. Any other moronic questions?
Seriously, I asked a simple question to if anyone had one, not to find out what you think is the best way to do it. If you can't answer the question asked, why even bother responding?

Why does it have to be made from metal?
I used 15mm ply and the plans for the metal version. Used some 25mm round 'hole sawn' bits of the ply stacked and bolted together to fir into the hole on the lifting point of my trolley jack. No issue with it falling over when I was wheeling it around on the jack.
Removed the box by myself, but did need someone to assist in altering the jack height while I lined the box back up when I refitted it.

Seriously everyone is just offering some help and advice.
Look up a thread from Alien last year about his advice on removal. He mentioned he was going to make a bracket up and may have it sitting around still. Shoot him a PM and ask nicely, he may be able to help you out.

Surely not 60kg. I did get sore arms putting mine back in this week but it didn't feel that heavy.
My bracket is wood. But it works better for sitting than lifting. I will make a better bracket next time.

not sixty thats for sure, that would be 3 x20kg cement bags and the complete LT230 I lifted the other day was not 3 bags of cement...

I'm a long way from you, so you cant borrow mine! BUT, get strip of flat metal (or angle iron,about 50x50 x25) drill a 12mm hole in each end. Bolt it to the rearmost stud on the right side of the gear lever pedestal, a shackle on the upper arm of the angle and using a small chain block/'come-along' supported on a beam inside the vehicle (by rotating the "angle iron" you can finely adjust the balance of the gearbox and t'fer case (try other close gearbox studs if you cant get a good enough 'ballance'

...great for a defender, but not possible in a disco 2 i'm afraid:(.

The shipping weight of the TC I got from TRS was 68 kg with open wooden pallet, cables, harness, handbrake drum and backing plate attached. Apparently the drum and backing plate make up about 20kg of the weight.
All Four x 4 Spares list the delivery weight for a dry reco LT230 as being 30Kg for a Defender 200Tdi and 300Tdi, and 40kg for a Disco 1 & 2 case.
30kg is significantly more manageable than 40kg so I'm not surprised the Defenderati think it's an easy lift. :D
And thanks to fender95vnt for the loan of the bracket.

This is posted for the readers who might have problems using an adaptor & not directed to assist Offtrack...:cool:
I did make up a bracket & found it to be too difficult to manoeuvre the transfer box to line up. I ended up buying 4 long bolts, cutting the heads off, going with Rangiemans option of straight trolley jack and slid the transfer box into place. I then removed the long bolts ( I did flatten the ends of the long bolts to fit an open end spanner) one at a time. Made it real easy..:)
